Fire at Boulder Creek near Pemberton doubled to 500 ha overnight. Camp on evacuation alert. Big aggressive fires very early on in the summer.

Please everyone be careful and call in anything that looks out of place. *5555

Does a campfire and BBQ ban include an MSR stove to cook with?

No.

From the BC Forest Fire Info FB page:

"BC Forest Fire Info Hi Chris. This prohibition does not apply to cooking stoves that use gas, propane or briquettes. It also does not apply to a portable campfire apparatus with a CSA or ULC rating that uses briquettes, liquid or gaseous fuel, with a flame length of 15 centimetres or less. The use of this equipment may be prohibited locally and at a later time if deemed necessary so check "current fire bans" online at: www.bcwildfire.ca The use of a portable campfire apparatus that does not meet the conditions noted above is prohibited."

Wow, very thick smoke this morning. The color of the sky earlier was very eerie.

"Forest Fire - Carlson Point (aka Old Sechelt Mine fire)

Update: Firefighting efforts are continuing at the Carlson Point fire. The BC Forest Service has command of the site. The fire is estimated to be 80ha in size and 40 % contained. Danger trees are being removed to give crews better access. No structures are currently threatened and there are no evacuations at present. The cause of the fire is under investigation.

The crews have had good success on the east flank of the fire which is the side facing the residences. The fire has burned into an area with very thick brush and heavy, old growth forest. Crews are working to widen trails and may burn off fuels if the weather permits. Containment lines will be strengthened and guards will be constructed today. Assigned resources include 55 firefighters, 2 Officers, 3 helicopters, 3 water tenders, 4 excavators.

Outflow winds overnight have caused heavy smoke to drift over Sechelt. This may exacerbate pre-existing respiratory conditions. (7/5/2015 8:30 am)

Next update expected at approximately 6:00pm.

PLEASE stay out of the fire operations area! People interfering with fire operations can and will be charged under the Wildfire Act."

Fast Orange would feel at home. The haze this afternoon is almost as bad as what I was told was normal when I was in Tianjin in 2007.

No allergies, but I'm starting to get a headache and feeling generally pretty crappy.

Here's the view from my living room:

Now I'm not feeling any guilt for not going for a pedal on the shore tonight :). Might go down to the beach for the sunset though, could be a stunner.
