I came across from Nanaimo this afternoon and you could easily see where the fire was. Thick, thick, smoke in the whole area, like a fog bank had settled on the surrounding peaks, with a long tail being blown south towards the city.

I noticed this as well, good view from Richmond against the mountains. Looked pretty nasty, must have been / be a large fire.

Firefighting efforts are continuing at the Mason Road / Carlson Point fire. The BC Forest Service has command of the site. Helicopters are 'bucketing' water. Fallers and heavy equipment are being used to create fire breaks. No structures are currently threatened and there are no evacuations at present. The cause of the fire is under investigation. The fire is estimated to be 35ha in size. (7/3/2015 5:45 pm)

If you discover burning embers drifting from the fire, please call 9-1-1.

We will try to keep this site updated over the weekend. Information will also be available through Coastal Fire Centre at 250-951-4209 or BC Forest Fire Facebook.

Smoke may be heavy in areas of West Sechelt and the Shores. HealthLinkBC has produced information on Particulate Matter and Outdoor Air Pollution. For tips on how to avoid problems when smoke is in the air, visit the Canadian Lung Association website.

Be Fire Smart.

My parents live not to far from this fire. They've started putting valuable together in case they get an evacuation alert.

It was marked as "Not a Fire of Note" meaning that it was not visible to or reported by the public.
