I was out for a walk yesterday with the dog. I see a mountain biker coming at us, so i get me and the pooch out of his way. He goes flying by only to realize he is on a 8" travel Mountain Bike with an electric motor. This is a motor bike not a mountain bike, i had motocross bikes with less travel in the 70's. If i was out trail building/maintaining and this guy went by me i would be pissed. It is only a matter of time that one of these E-Bikes climbing up a trail is going to collide with a rider coming down the hill.
What are your thoughts on this.
We need Some Regulation On E-Bikes

I love that. But trials riders aren't restricted to trails the way bikes are. I don't know any trials rider who would want to ride a bike trail - in their eyes a bike trail is a clapped out trials trail.
On a trials bike you can really explore. And now with clutchless electric, silently. Just need the range to get a bit better and it'll be an amazing option.
There's nothing better than an Orangina after cheating death with Digger.
I think this is a user issue. Clearly the rider lacked any kind of trail etiquette.
im just showing whats possible eventually on an electric bike. if Ebikes are OK whats stopping guys on e trials bikes from riding up mtb trails
at the same time MTB ers break all kinds of rules like riding the darkside so I would imagine that the e mtb guys will just break rules as well.
Ban 'em. No motorized vehicle of any kind on the mtn bike trails.
The north shore trails can barely sustain the density of riders it has now. An e rider is capable of 10 times the wear and tear via weight and repetition. Unless they are doing 10 times the trail days I say ban em . Better now before they get popular .
If you have more horsepower than Lance on EPO then you don't get to ride the trails.
I watched a couple of E Bikes on the Whistler, Valley Trail, going way to fast for their ability. They almost ran into some people they met on a corner. If it was a regular pedal bike, by the time you can go that fast hopefully you have some skill.

How about banning motorized vehicles of any kind from dedicated bike/hiking trails? And imposing severe fines and or confiscation. If there comes a significant faction of people who want to ride motorized vehicles on public land, they can advocate for that and approach the District about having their own dedicated trails (this is how democracy works).
If you were a witness to this, you need to contact the local authorities as well as the local council. Posting on an online BB isn't going to change much.
Not like a ban would stop it from happening anyways!

It would put the law on the side of any other trail users who ensure the law is followed "any means necessary".

Like a motion sensor triggered EMP on every trail? That would take care of Strava too. Teehee
