Was I attacked by a Badger?

So I'm following my buddy down Psudo Tsuga (don't know proper spelling cause I lost my map http://bb.nsmb.com/showthread.php?t=135160) and as I pass some bushes I hear the most blood curdling sound I have ever heard in my life. It sounded like a rabid zombie dog mated with an undead vampire cougar. It really scared the shit out of me as I expected to be hauled off my bike by some fearsome beast with razor sharp talons, or at least have my ankle torn off as the sound seemed to come from close to the ground.

I was running my helmet cam and in going back to the video I think I can see the white face of a badger lurking just to the right of me. I was going so fast the picture is super blurry. The quality makes pictures of the Loch Ness Monster look like HD. I also googled angry badger sounds and it really sounded like the noise I heard on the trail.

Anyone ever have a run in with an angry badger?

Audio of angry badger.

REally unlikely that it was a badger in Squamish. They're endangered in BC, and they're habitat is typically drier, so around Williams Lake, Kamloops, Okanagan, Princeton, etc.

Probably a cougar, lynx, or bobcat, or maybe even a wolverine (although a wolverine is pretty dark).

Oh, and I don't see anything in that pic but some leaves.

no, the badger was holding the red spear facing the other way, probably about to attack something to the right of the frame. plus they never miss and you got thru.

There's a little patch of white (I said it was hard to see) and its perspective moves independently of the leaves. You can see that while it moves predictably with the leaves, the angle changes where if it was a stationary object it would not. It's easier to see flipping through frame by frame.

What is freakier are the two sets of eyes at the left of the frame. I can feel them burning a hole through my brain.

It was most likely a raccoon. They make crazy screeching sounds when startled , and also have lots of white in there faces.

I think if it was a cat, lynx, theyd have gotten you. Bobcat, maybe. But racoons are actually the most naturally aggressive of the lot.

Thanks for clarifying the sound using real-life references…

I'm seconding the raccoon theory, but sure, anything's possible.

I'll buy that it was a Raccoon but feel a little sheepish that a Raccoon scared me, even though they are pretty bad ass.
