Thought about buying a road bike once… but the open road is far more dangerous than any stunt infested DH run by a LONG shot. Roadies are nucking futs. It's dirt for me, where there's clean air and some peace and quiet :)

What a bonehead.

(Update as of Monday Sept 17th: The Colorado State Patrol is involved and we've found others who have had similar run-ins with this driver. If anyone else has information about this driver call Trooper Donahue 303-239-4501. Need to centralize information. Thanks) Here is what was supposed to be my relaxing Sunday morning ride with my teammate until things became a bit unsettling when an older male driver came up behind us in his Ford Explorer (license plate Colorado 893 EKG). This guy obviously doesn't like seeing bikes for some reason since he sat behind us for more than five minutes blaring his horn. What's even worse is we saw him approaching from behind and to be polite we ride single file to give him as much road as possible, as we did with every other car we encountered on this road east of Longmont, CO. This guy was so intent of bugging us that he backed up traffic behind him and cars had to pass him on a double yellow line. It seems he was the one obstructing traffic, not us. We ended up slowing up in order to force him to pass us and go on with his day. Insane. Hopefully this is the worste thing this guy does to cyclists.

Disagree… I have sustained more pain and accidents from my xc riding than my roadie….. Seeing as i havent had any major issues on the roadie in well over 4k miles, and i cant go a month without hitting something on a trail i would say youre wrong… But maybe its just me….

as i was watching that clip it occurred to me , maybe that driver wasn't there to piss those guys off , he was trying to inject a little of " le tour " atmosphere into their sunday ride .

or maybe he was trying to piss them off , or make a point ?

and uh , couldn't that trooper just run the plate and find this guy ?

Hmmm ya like a crazy old french man that used to cycle…now he just gets drunk at the pub and on his drive home he finds cyclists to mobile support lol=/

What a f'in dick.
As crazy as that freak in the SUV is i think i would have just stopped. Either they could have screamed it out or driver would have pissed off and kept going. Probably the later as im assuming he would be to chicken shit to explain his actions. Im sure i would feel like more of a sitting duck with him behind me and both of us rolling. A situation like that could escalate fast and i would rather have my eyes on the bastard.

WTF, Over?

Follow-up:

A 75-year-old Erie man has been ticketed in connection with a widely seen You Tube video, which shows a horn-honking driver tailing two cyclists on Colorado 52.
The Colorado State Patrol anounced Thursday that James Ernst was issued a citation for : Harassment (two charges) (a class 3 misdemeanor); Impeding the flow of traffic/minimum speed regulation (a class A traffic infraction) and Improper use of a horn or warning device (a class B traffic infraction)
The state patrol said in a news release that "the citation is based on an investigation by CSP of a male driver in a Ford Explorer driving behind bicyclists, slowing down to their speed and continually honking the vehicle horn while refusing to pass the bicycles which were riding near the right portion of the travel lane."
Dirk Friel took the video while he and a friend were followed for about five minutes during a Sunday morning ride.
