Transit Bus bike racks

I been wanting to ask this question for some time. How safe are those bus bike racks? I took the Bus a few times up to SFU and my bike danced on the rack all the way up, looks like it was about to fall off any minute but it never did. Anybody have bad experience with those racks?

I use it all the time (pretty much every thursday going to pipeline) and the racks are super secure, dont worry about your bike at all. The only problem is big tires (like 2.3 + ) dont fit without some deflation

i use the bike rack up to SFU about 7 times a day… mine has never even come close to falling off, it bounces around but aslong as you have the bar over your front tire its on there really well

Ditto - I also use them often and my bike has always stayed on, but I have to push a bit to get my 2.3" tires in.

Don't settle for anything less than brass nipples.

like the title says they are fine as long as your front tire is 2.3 or less. its all about the front tire cuz that is the one that needs to lock in.

my tires are 2.6… all it takes is some force to get in the rack

I am running 2.7s in the front and .75 in the back, takes some force to pop the tire into the rack, but i guess it holds. I might be heading up to fromme this weekend via bus. Its good to know that those racks are secure

I use the whistler ones all the time, even the shadyass ones that look rusted through and busticated, and they've always been fine…..dh tires work, just gotta force em in!

You can always lower your PSI a bit too.

One time I tried to shove a 2.8 michi into the rack and busted the end clean off. The bus driver wasn't impressed one bit.

Also depends on what kind of rim you're running.

also whoever designed the new racks on the new buses ( the silver racks) didnt have mountain bike in mind. My bighit and torrent wont even fit into the rack at all, its about 4-5inches longer than the rack. Theres a few of those buses running up and down the production way to sfu route. Alot of bikers have to wait for the old buses, unless the driver is nice enough to let the bikes on board

I had a 3.0 gazzy before which you had to run flat to get into the rack. Pain in the ass to pump up with a mini pump after every run up SFU.
