Toronto Street Comp

Man this news bums me out. Toronto looked real appealing and I wanted to check out the street scence there. May is coming up super fast and I will have been 1 month out of not riding at all for 3 months with a month of road only after that. Damn injuries.

I would vote for a August Rye Airfield, simply 'cause I could do a similar trip as last year, where as June, I would still be in work, and probably wouldn't have time to come out. Myself, Chris Aho, and Jake Dehnert were going to try and make the Airfield, but in June that's a maybe. Bummer, but whatever… I still think real street is where it's at.

So the latest news, more pro confirmations and some basic information as to the event and format.

Added John Jesme and possibly V-Dub to the list tonight (assuming he heals in time).

The event is indeed going to be held on the 2nd and 3rd of May and has no affiliation with the bike show or the roundhouse rumble. Friday the 2nd is an evening practice followed by bar night for those 19+, Saturday morning Amateur (we're opening up for 40 competitors only, so if you're interested send an email soon) and Saturday afternoon pro. This event is street specific so don't be expecting dirt jumps or bridge drops before registering.

Jam format was high on all of the pro and amateur's ideals list for a good comp, and we listened.

Show up and see all of these riders together pushing eachother like never before.

Luckily at Rye Jesme didn't win - judges saw past the backflip action. Thankfully, Chase won it with no backflips and lots of tech style and flow. Not to mention that a "street" contest can't be held on ramps anyway.

What exactly did V-Dub do to his leg. I didn't see it happen, but I was just starting to practice when everyone stopped riding 'cause of it. Broken Tib/Fib? Plate and screws? My buddy said his foot was sideways just like mine. I find it hard to believe he isn't riding yet, cause I am only another month out (to jsut riding at all, not full strength) and I did mine way later than his. In fact I compressed a vertabrae and healed up THEN broke my leg since he hurt himself. I hope for sympathy sake that he is riding by now…

From what I heard about Von's injury the complicated part was that he dislocated the tibia from the foot. Broken bones can heal a lot faster that dislocations. Hopefully he'll show up. He rides street pretty fast for an ex-trials geek. Usually those guys ride like mollases.

And I'm sure Ryan Senechal will round up judges who won't go crazy for circus trick stuff like back flips. At the Rye Comp all the judges were BMXers or had BMX backgrounds. Then there are disasters like the Red Bull Bike Battle where the judge is the wife of a trials rider.

Well first off, there is no box jump at this event which means that if you're going to flip it'll have to be damn tech.
The course looks really sick, I'll try and get a pic up sometime soon.

Yeah i'm sorry Morley. I've just had to bug a couple guys about the little ring up front. They were trying to do street stuff and were pedaling their cranks and getting nowhere fast. It's kind of hard to hit a wallride in competition gear.

Your getting kind of tech. Has the trials community threatened to ban you for doing "totally useless" stuff like nosepick crank flips on the top of park bench backrests? That was you wasn't it?

That sucks. Did they credit the photographer? (I can't find this mag anywhere so I don'y know) There are some cool companies out there that give full props though. (Atom Lab, all the video guys, DH Productions, etc..) All the photographers label their stuff so it's gotta be marzocchi's advertising agency that ignored it.

I think that Marzocchi is too busy signing porn stars who got into the business because they were molested by their dad's friend "Earl" and went to LA to become an actress and are looking to supplement their double penetration income. Real classy Marzocchi.
