I think what he meant to say was the TC trail isn't a fucking DH bike trail so you shouldn't be blasting down it at mach 10!

Why not just setup a spike belt? You people obviously are old and do not enjoy this called fun. God, live a little!
:P
Right. Bikes will be even _more welcome _on the trails after some carnage caused by a reckless rider.
God, think a little.
P.S. Bunny-hopping spike belts is easy! :)
I'm not that familiar with Burnaby Mtn
with all due respect, that's where you should have stopped, and I'm not meaning to be a dick.
the path this incident occured on is a hard packed crushed gravel path called the Trans Canada trail. It's a wide multi-purpose path that most cyclists use for a climbing route up. I've seen way more people walking on it than ever seen bikers. To ride down it at a high rate of speed is incredibly reckless. There a 95% chance you will encounter other users on the trail, and the hard packed gravel surface won't allow you to stop quickly.
Treat dogs like wildlife, hikers, kids etc. If you can't slow down enough to stop or react to the situation in a public area, especially a high traffic zone like this one, then you are going too fast.
Last time I rode past that corner (Friday evening) a dad and his two kids were playing in the ditch with the water (boats out of leaves or something). The kid's were no more than 5 or 6. If one of them popped out and some Sam Hill wannabe with 0 talent ran them over then what? I ride down the TCT when I'm doing several laps up and down it, but that's on an XC bike and I DO NOT HAUL ASS. If you want to ride like that go to Whistler, don't ruin Burnaby mountain for everybody else.
alright!!!
Next time just call the cops and tell them the area is frequented by the Black Bloc on DH bikes.

What are you? Some kind of fire extinguisher?
How can we have any flame-wars if you chime in with thoughtful, respectful answers like that? Killjoy!
Yeah, at the speed this guy was going there was no way he could stop in time to avoid hitting anything.
Maybe my dog should have been on leash, but that is besides the point. Burnaby should really install speed control barriers. That might make grading it with a machine harder, but it would sure be better than seeing some poor kid getting smoked by some moron.
I'm not that familiar with Burnaby Mtn, but what are the leashing rules like? Even though I like dogs, I do not like them on mtn bike trails (especially when they're unleashed), let alone owners who will blame others for their dogs safety. The few times I've almost hit a dog, the owner was smart enough to put a bell on the collar and they were actually pretty understanding about the whole issue. It's even better when the owner see's a bike on the trail and a rider fighting his way out of the bushes.
If you know there's a junction, control your dog and save us all this bs. After all if you're dog gets hurt, you really have no one else to blame but yourself. You took up him/her up there, and let him roam around hoping everyone else has that mythical thing called common sense.
Here's the flip side to the OP - you said the rider could've killed your dog. What if you're dog caused the rider to eject, bail, and severely injured themself?
Flame on.
I hear what your saying and that is a very valid point, but there is one error in your post. You called it a mountainbike trail. It's a trail. Users are allowed to hike and bike. Some places horses will also be there although not on SFU.
It's not the speed of the rider per se, but the lack of due respect and caution for other legit users.
Debate? Bikes are made for riding not pushing.
Barriers would help, like on Old Buck. Granted, you can going pretty fast from one to the next but at least it sends the right kind of messaage. The sight lines are good too

Ya bunny hopping them IS easy for us pro's.. but those no skill losers doing mach 10 down a multi-use trail, not a chance.
And I love how every forgets about the hikers who sabotage our shiz.. intent to injure over intent to have fun. Shiiiit.

Whenever I see some asshat flying down Joe's I do what AlanB says and force him to slow and go around me. Some old jerk in xc gear came flying past me when I was riding up with my head down and with my headphones on and screamed "Keep yer f**king head up!" as though I was the asshole and I have been kinda militant about those guys ever since. It is really common to see dogs, young kids, strollers and old timers on that trail and riding down it at top speed is a total dick move.

So because there are a very few asshole hikers, we have to jeopardise every user on the trail like it's our right?
Grow up.

I suggest you trim your deathstar to include some sarcasm, anecdotes and other undeniable truths. But thanks Dad.

actually…horses have been seen on sfu. and it is legal. it's unfortunate, as they really tear up a trail. it's not that common however.
