My understanding is that the Baden-Powell from IR Road up is okay for MTB.
Trailforks agrees with me (yes, I know that TF doesn't make the rules, but they're generally pretty good about reporting the rules).
The last time I saw switch on a trail he was hiking so clearly his opinion is biased and should be ignored.

This. I can only presume someone that lives out at woodlands is on council....
I live on the suburbia end of IR rd and I will tell you what is more dangerous than a few people hiking / biking in the forest; It's the speed at which entitled woodlands residents drive through our neighbourhood....

Is that a thing now? I've been doing a fair bit of paved pathway riding this spring with my 5 yo granddaughter, and we have encountered more than a few of the above, who blow by her without any consideration. She's a good rider, but as any parent knows, children can prone to wobbles and distractions. I'd add that the jerks have all been male.

Im a bit confused, are we talking about Indian River Drive? I am not aware of Indian River Road. This is a genuine question, not trying to be a smartass.
Indian River Crescent has the "Local traffic only" sign on it
(weirdly, the same piece of road starts out as Indian River Drive then continues as Indian River Drive after the residential area - at least according to Google Maps...)

@switch, as I'd guess you're aware, BP is the only trail between Mt Seymour Road and Indian River Drive mountain bikes are allowed on. And that stretch of BP is currently closed to all users because its in Seymour Provincial Park.
If riders are saying there's no signage about riding trails in that area (even when the park is open) they're either fibbing, or experiencing periods of blindness they should discuss with a doctor, as it sounds hazardous to have happen while mountain biking.
I'd also suggest that whoever is throwing my name around over there is either doing so in jest, or to be harmful. Hopefully its the former.

Coconut is not all in the Provincial Park. You can ride on unsanctioned trails on DNV and Metro land. The trail was built by a mountain biker and that was the argument. You said it wasn't and are completely wrong. Bikes are going to go where the trails are and telling us where we can and can't go isn't going to work out well for you. Let other people enjoy their activity.
FYI, the Seymour Provincial Park management plan is from the 60's when mtb'ing wasn't even invented. Same management plan as Burke but you can bike there?

riding and building are two different things. There are no bylaws (for DNV) that say you can't bike on unsanctioned trails. GVRD doesn't have anything either. No one has ever been fined for riding on these lands and never will be. Only building trails is a no no but 99% of the sanctioned trails were once unsanctioned.

Burke has it's trails on Trailforks and TORCA has regular trail days and there are new trails popping up all the time and maintenance on existing ones so I'm not sure how that is. You get can get fined/imprisoned for riding in some areas of Seymour Provincial Park so it's all confusing and really doesn't make sense. They are working on new management plan but it's still in the works for both parks.

Only in BC Parks is there a risk of imprisonment for riding bikes without permission. Curiously building trails without permission is not addressed as an offence under the Parks Act. Only the Forests Act addresses this issue but as there are no active forestry tenures in the North Shore that point is moot.

Trailforks shows all trails as unsanctioned and without a trail association on Burke BC Parks. Its an uphill battle for a few dedicated volunteers to change that They can all use our support via paid memberships
