If youâre a fan of the lower sections of Sex Boy or Shore Play, this is the summer to ride them because the parts below Fern Trail are facing closures later in August.
In 2008 the fate of Sex Boy and Shore Play were sealed when the Area Development Plan for Rodgers Creek was approved. The trail sections below 1,200 feet were in Area 6 and zoned for residential housing. On the bright side, Area 6 wasnât going to be developed for a long time and DWV agreed to accept temporary rights-of-way for Sex Boy so the trail could be kept open until a way to route bikes to Cypress Village was found.
Fast forward to 2016. Plans for Cypress Village are still nascent, the Vancouver housing market is red hot and British Pacific Properties is ready to start developing Area 6 in August. I think you know where this is heading.
On May 17 the BPP VP of Development met with 5 Cypress builders and me at Hi-View Lookout. It was a good discussion of options and later the builders walked a potential new line above Fern. Eventually a detour was found that preserved the entirety of the trails above Fern. The detour is about 4 pedal strokes west of Lower Sex Boy, is all downhill and connects to Sex Girl shortly below Fern. Hereâs the detour in purple. Itâs on Trailforks as Sex Girl Connector.
Sex Girl Connector needs some clearing and raking, but I rode it no sweat without any work done on it. Short. Easy. All downhill.
The bottom line is that the sections of Sex Boy and Shore Play below Fern are going to be closed during construction. No dates have been set. BPP is trying to work with the biking community on this.
What do you think? Who rides Sex Boy or Shore Play these days? Are there any favourite stunts you want to ride or take photos of while theyâre still around?
