Teeter Totters on North Van trails to be removed...

I have heard from a firsthand source (no hearsay this time) that the DNV plans to decommission all teeter totters - which I suppose means all of them on land managed by DNV. I'm hoping to create a backlash against this silly proposal before it goes ahead.

I can think of only two on Fromme right now (Ladies and Pipeline) and one on Boogieman on Seymour.

Are there some I'm forgetting or unaware of?

Please feel free to start spreading the word about this right now though. Time may be short.

Thanks

Save those teeter totters, such a fun feature from that era of mountain biking.

Mine got given the chop by CMHC and was supported by or maybe even initiated by DNV. I can imagine it’s a liability argument on their end but it’s a slippery slope. What about teeter totters in public parks? And swings and monkey bars? It’s the bubble wrapping  of society and imo it’s mostly a response to the litigious society we’re creating.

Is there any way to provide feedback or change the plan? Doesn't seem like the land managers are interested in meeting the need/demand or listening to feedback....

Heartbreaking. That s life I guess. Would be cool to keep some history. You need someone like Jeff Grosso who does those loveletters to skateboarding.... Mountain biking needs one for North Van....Starting in the 80s....

Time time to stop this has long past. The insurance underwriters "which are in Ontario" have mandated this and the DNV has no say if they want insurance.

When the DNV told me I had to remove both teeters from Pipeline I asked all of the above questions as well.

Nothing will change and they must go.

Teeter's have been removed from almost all playgrounds over the last few decades due to the number of injuries. Go to any school playground and try to find one. Heck Pipeline even has a death attributed to the 2nd teeter.

Good news is for Pipeline that each teeter will be replaced with something right out of the old school shore play book.

Rode Pipeline on Sunday with my son. Awesome. Thanks for keeping some old school carnage on the shore. Rocks and roots in all the bad places - just how it should be. The kids need to see this type of trail every now and then or they will think that whatever happens in The Park is mountain biking. Pipeline is mountain biking!
