Strange, sad little mystery.

Maybe someone (or lots of people) know about this; out riding Fromme today and took a wrong turn off Grannies. I ended up about 100m East of Upper Crippler and probably halfway to BP as far as I can tell and came across a large cross and a carving in a nearby tree that says ' nothing's gonna bring him back'. Sounds like a Grateful Dead lyric.

Anybody know the story here?

You most likely found the memorial cross of a kid named Ryan Page. It has been a long time since I saw the memorial, but it is there for a reason. I used to play soccer with him when I was young and after soccer I never saw him again. As I know (or recall, it has been almost 30 years) he took his own life after the breakup with his then girlfriend. That is all the detail I know.

The memorial is beside a creek in a slight clearing to the best of my memory. It is off an obscure trail that actually you can get too from the old Espresso line. The cross was put there by his friends; I suspect they spent a fair amount of time at that clearing.

Ah. Sounds very much like it. Thanks for filling me in. It's another interesting piece of shore history, even if it's a tragic story.
