Good story in a thread filled with negativity? So making up some BS about our brand is a good thing?
March 7th 2013 we got a 'general inquiry' via our website…I will admit many of these go with no reply, but this one I remember reading the email, taking the time out to check the site, and send a response, the resonse was (as I just pulled from my outlook):

I do not see where the above reply constitutes as telling you to F@CK OFF!??? Not cool to post lies about myself or the brand I represent.
Anyways, we at TLD are bummed to hear about Sombrio, Dave is a good guy who had a good idea and we do hope for the best with him and the brand.
Signed,
Stikman from TLD.
Just wanted to share a good story about Sombrio in a thread (mostly) filled with negativity.
Back when we filmed "I'm Faster than You" a video I'm sure most of you have see I contacted all the major clothing brands as we needed flashy gear to film with. TLD told us to fuck off basically, Fox replied courteously and said they didn't have the budget and the others just never replied. The day we had to film came and we were screwed with nothing to wear. We decided to reach out to Sombrio and THAT DAY they hooked us up with 2 complete kits, no charge and told us to keep them as long as we needed. Without them stepping up to support two guys who wanted to make a funny video I am not sure what we would have done. Sorry some of you had poor impressions of the company, just wanted to share a little story that might change your minds a little.

This bit raised my eyebrows:
The consultants had a grand vision of making Sombrio into a big company very fast with a network of our own retail stores. It seemed almost too good to be true but they were convinced it would work. In 2012 we raised funds from an investor, added staff to a great team, invested in systems, products, and began to execute on this growth strategy.
Sadly, it went sideways, as the retail expansion plan was way more expensive to execute than we were led to believe, barred with issues, and stores never opened

Were the consultants freshly minted MBA graduates with no real-world experience?

for me the old roach stuff is still the best. i know it doesn't look as bling , but my roach pants have to have had way over 100 rides in the crappiest, muddiest weather i will ride in and aside from one small rip (where they got hooked on my chainring) they still look pretty good..i always really liked ingrid..she promoted some awesome races..
i never did get any core rat product..but i used to cover some of angies routes downtown when she was a messenger and needed day off…
glory days…

still is a pair of early Roach shorts my son wears from time to time that i bought back in the 90,s
and i still wear my Corerat vest i got off Angie the 1st yr she was in business ,
the lose of these 2 clothing sources left a huge void in our local market IMO as the clothing was designed for our climate and riding
never owned any Sombrio but i remember when Dave , Andrew and Gabe 1st started the company back in the day .
seeing their rig the 1st thing that came too mind was what a freaking waste of $85K to $120K and then having a crew travel around in it for a blog another waste of $$$

Agree, I still wear Roach wet-gear stuff (FR shorts, long pants) I bought 15+ years ago. Still holding up and still waterproof.
As to Sombrio, going brick-and-mortar retail sounds crazy in this day and age. Maybe they should have tried hard to recruit/attract established online retailers to carry their lines. Seems like the retail market for bike clothing and accessories is saturated with companies as it is anyway. Sad as it is to admit (in the sense that brick and mortar contributes to local economies, online retailers don't) online is usually a LOT cheaper than brick-and-mortar, plus comparison shopping is just a mouse click away.

Have a pair of Angie's pants still going. Picked up 2 pairs of her shorts and the jacket with the take off sleeves when she cleared out the last of her inventory.
yea angies gear was super bomber as well..similar stuff in many ways.. ingrid had been making bags and pads for couriers so when she also started making clothes a lot of us went straight to her..angies stuff was almost MORE hardcore..haha

just curious…what do you normally wear when you go mountain biking?

I'm guessing they needed a clean and shiny kit. A dirty worn one would loose some of the visual effect needed. It's subtle but I can understand that.
