Great work to all involved. If charges have been formally laid, the accused person can be publicly named.

I guess the perp doesn't read NSMB or else they'd have realized there was a chance they were being watched. This is great news. Thanks to all involved.

maybe a crowd funding page to help cover the costs should be created and linked up here?

Sadly it's only updated the day of, but keep an eye on the provincial court list to see who the alleged offender is.

I found it too good to believe at first. But clearly I was foolish to doubt Gord. I expect it is unlikely that the person will get much of anything in terms of serious punishment, even if conviction is obtained; probably a suspended sentence and prohibition from entering certain areas. However, identifying the perp will be a huge prize in itself. Huge beers in order for the sleuths.

If crowd funding is a bit high tech, maybe the person who bought all the stuff frequents an LBS and they could collect donations.

Hmmmmm……….

Unauthorized surveillance by private citizens on public lands.

This sounds like a job for the BCCLA.

That very may well be, but chance of conviction - probability of conditional sentencing, if any - and relative strength of appeal grounds aren't really the point.

No one else was going to do f*** and/or all about this vandal until a rider got seriously hurt and then the reaction would have been more likely to punish us (riders) through trail closure or sanitation than them (deranged asshole who was apparently vandalizing trails at 4am).

Now everyone is going to know the name of the Crazy NIMBY that is trying to hurt them and Crazy NIMBY is going to know that everyone knows. Even if he walks the loss of anonymity will probably keep a rider from getting hurt in the future.
