Hmmmmm……….

Unauthorized surveillance by private citizens on public lands.

This sounds like a job for the BCCLA.

So how exactly was this douche bag's civil liberties trodden upon? Surely you are not suggesting that this person has a right to set traps to injure riders and hikers? Or that the public has no right to try and catch this dick? Which laws were allegedly broken by these two members of the public?

Debate? Bikes are made for riding not pushing.

^ yep - hard to argue that you have a right to privacy on a public trail.

So - if'n you're ever out in the wild yonder with the Missus and thinking about getting "natural" - be warned.

Good effort guys! Can someone drop info in the cameras used in the process? Also, was he laying traps or just mowing down jumps?

From a friend. This is the camera to use. http://www.bushnell.com/all-products/trail-cameras/trophy-cam/trophy-cam

Also from a friend re filming on public spaces

There is no expectation of privacy on public lands as long as filming is for non-commercial purposes. This applies in BC and the rest of Canada.

As far as I know trail cams on public land are 100% OK. I'm very impressed with the persistence it took to catch this person. Awesome work to the person(s) that invested in this.

Will be curious to find out the motivation behind the sabotage.

Now let's use those cameras to catch the douchebags cutting shortcuts on switchbacks, and sentence them to some hard labour with a shovel! ;)

This was really pleasing to read. Just back in October I went out to my local trail system to put in some miles, had my DH bike in the back as well and didn't have time to run home and drop it off. So I parked up by the County water treatment plant gates where I knew the only cameras in the area were located and took off to do my loop. AND WHAT DO YOU KNOW! Some rat bastard came by completely oblivious of the cameras that were pointed directly at him and slashed all 4 of my tires.

To get to the point, its great relating to this article. People terrorizing members of our community need deserve every last bit of punishment they receive and maybe a little extra just for kicks.

I had a trip planned to go out on my MX bike that weekend that I had to cancel, and had to pull $1000 out of pocket to get another set of 35x12.50 tires for my Jeep, and no my insurance didn't cover vandalism unfortunately.

Sadly it's only updated the day of, but keep an eye on the provincial court list to see who the alleged offender is.

Check it on Feb 4th.

Posting from CTV news as we are pursuing this story today. Trying to piece a few additional details together. If anyone has any information they'd like to share - please contact me: [email protected]

Also trying to figure out if the photo of the camera posted by Walleater is a photo of the actual camera that helped in this?

Any info much appreciated. 604-609-5800

It's now hit the National Post, wow. Digger, nice picture in the national media… I'm looking for an autograph next time I see you out there !

http://news.nationalpost.com/2015/01/07/woman-charged-after-video-allegedly-catches-her-setting-booby-traps-on-north-vancouver-bike-trails/

I've seen it on Global, The Globe and Mail, CBC, VanCityBuzz, News1130 and now the Post. Biggest issue for this lady will be the public shaming, not unlike the interior designer in Vancouver who poisoned some trees.
