Nelson North Shore is one of my favorite areas to go and ride (make that Nelson in general) Every year after my visit my skill set has definitely improved :D

A great article. I like reading Seb's stuff.
But what if that was it, that every time I rode my bike it was exactly the same? What if all trails were flow country trails? Id hate it.
I very much agree, but the opposite is also true: if all trails were double black tech gnar, I'd hate it.

After racing the enduro this past weekend, I can say that I sure don't like riding chundery trails anymore. The parts of the trails that had obvious work done to them to help with speed and flow were super fun. The rough untouched portions were just bad. In my opinion anyway. Speed is a technical feature of a trail too, it doesn't have to be huge rocks, roots, and awkward turns to be challenging.

Exactly.
This whole debate would simmer down if some trails could be designated 'permanently gnarly' and others 'permanently nice'. The we'd all know what to expect.
It's not like the beginners are only going to ride beginner trails there whole life. Some of them could be gnar riders in training.

We rode up Old Buck, over to that new Severed Entrance, out on Baden Powell to the powerlines to Forever After, over to Greenland and Bottletop. It was as much fun as I've had on a bike in a while. Evidence of all the new trailwork and just how bright the Shore's future is on every trail. I'd say things have never been better.
We rode Executioner/DW a week back and after mainly riding Pemby and Squamish this year and I could barely hang on at times. People who say the Shore is being dumbed down just need to speed up. It's f**king brutal if you're hauling.
