has anyone ridden all the way up there? I got up to the part where the lift is visible and had to turn back because of daylight. don't know how friendly staff is about you having your bike up there. also, any tips on what to ride down? as far as best trails and length for climbing that high. don't know if jet boy jet girl is that good.
Riding Grouse
Staff have always been ok. Dismount at the top if theres lots of tourists. The road back is very fast, 7th is about 1/2 way up. And its worth exploring jb down once. Otherwise you can rip back to all the fromme classics.
No issues riding to the top….staff have never had any problems with it (in fact, they probably welcome your wallet, just as much as all the trail runners [HTML_REMOVED] hikers).
Jet Boy/Jet Girl is a waste of all that climbing….you'll get more bang for your buck if you head back down to 7th Secret, or look for the trail near Mt Fromme summit(there used to be an access at the old gravel pit).
Btw….why did you turn back because of daylight? Are you a vampire? :dizzy:
Yes, I have rode up to the tram. Make sure to quench your thirst with a nice frosty one up top.
There use to be a trail behind the old gravel pit just past the 7th switchback, it might still be open. 7th is probably your best best to ride down if you are already up that high and you came from the mnt hwy side.
Your 0.02 opinion is worthless. Since Feb 2013, pennies have to be rounded down. Sorry.
People are normally just curious when I go up there. These days though, if I go up, I normally cut across to part way down the Cut as the view is betterer.
treezz
wow you are a ass
I remember back in the ol' days, when we first rode up to the top (this is before the Grind, the Logger show, etc… existed)….we thought we would get shot for trespassing. There was an old sign on the switchback/pass that separates Grouse from Fromme that threatened trespassers with prosecution. I think the sign may still be there (it was high up on a tree).
Anyway….we rode to the top made it to the cafeteria without incident. A couple of guys didn't have the foresight to bring Pop-Tarts(pre-Gu)or cash, so they filled up on the free Cream-o [HTML_REMOVED] relish containers at the condiment stand (I distinctly remember seeing the look of disgust on Chris deKerf's face as one guy pounded back a series of Cream-o's). Some of us then headed down the Cut expecting to find a magical trail that would burn our names into the annals of mountain biking history as the first descentionists. It turned out to be part of the old BCMC [HTML_REMOVED] I swear we hiked down the entire thing.
The only saving grace was that back then, our non-suspended X-country machines weighed 24lbs [HTML_REMOVED] had shoulder/carrying straps.
I still remember the misery of that day.
A couple of guys didn't have the foresight to bring Pop-Tarts(pre-Gu)…
Thanks for the reminder, I remember taking those on rides.
Another good thing about them is you can find them in just about every corner store when bike touring.

True….and using a proper cycling jersey's back pockets ensured they'd be toasty warm when you were ready to eat 'em.
I rode up a couple of summers ago to do the ziplining thing, my bike attracted TONS of attention from the foreign tourists and made me feel like a pro! Used to ride up eat fries, drink beer, ride down. Their fries are no good anymore.
I remember borrowing my friends nishiki bushwacker ….. In 1984…. My friend Jason Mishke was along for the ride….. As teenagers we felt pretty extreme.
Have not missed a summit ride since. Give the Jet a touch on the way down.
I admit I rode up it this past weekend in the heat…. Almost passed out when I stopped at the top of the Grind to check out the views….. Back in time we just worried about running into bears and cougars…..
Stay fit and have fun. Body Break. @History of North Van Mtb with my own eyes riding my bike.

any realtionship to sue ellen?
We don't know what our limits are, so to start something with the idea of being limited actually ends up limiting us.
Ellen Langer
Ridden up all the way to the restaurant. They don't care. In fact, they would even prefer it if you bought something to eat or drink up there at the Observatory. Last time I rode up there, the ski-lift service guys were doing some work on the towers and were driving the equipment up and down. They were very gracious and pulled over to let us pass as we were coming up the hill towards them on our bikes.

AKA "The bra-less wonder?"
No…. Not related to Sue Ellen. That answer is exactly why I envy surf and skateboard culture. They have one…. and they respect the past before they move forward.
I ride there all the time. Staff are nice. Jet Boy is the fast way down but not for the faint at heart.
Jet Boy and Mountain Highway make a nice North Shore fitness loop. Great 2 hour work out.
