Having read the article, I was under the impression that they are writing to riders with all different types of brakes - V, mechanical and hydraulic… That being said, if you have particularly small hands like me, you don't have much choice other than to use one finger braking or you can't hold on to the bars well. From my experience, one finger works well under all conditions… wet, technical steeps, steep dry terrain and so on and so on… Just go for what works for you.
One or Two finger braking
Always 1 finger.. and my hardtail has a rear V brake.
The only time ive ever had to use 2 fingers is after riding fernie for a whole weekend, the last couple runs my hands were done.
Am I the only one here that uses 3 Fingers?!?
I use one finger on my road bike sometimes. Must be the masterbating.
One finger please. Except where endurance is involved.
I know of more than a couple sections of DH trail in the Loops area where I, and most riders, just get finger fatigued to the point of having to go for the 2 finger grab. You just have to or you might die, literally:D
imho - if you are two-finger braking your levers are in the wrong position or your brakes suck.
I too started one-fingering in the age of V brakes and it was a huge riding breakthrough for me. So much so that I still remember the day - I was riding Bookwos on my orange DeKerf.
Two. If MBA says two then you know it's wrong. My reason for two is short stubby fingers. The middle finger is the longest and the reach is set pretty close but to get the finger around the lever, I have to use the middle finger. I set the lever so that the middle finger is at the end of the lever too. Sometimes I don't use the index finger and it just rests on the lever. Never had any problem hanging on to the bar. But I use sti too and like it.
Debate? Bikes are made for riding not pushing.
Who cares how many fingers you use? Whatever feels right. Use 8 if you need to! I prefer to use the 0 finger method and just rip- only kidding of course. Mind you, I like those kind of trails that don't require much braking the best.
ski faster, I hear banjo music
if my index finger is getting too tired on the longer tech downhills then, i'll just one finger with the middle finger for awhile.
:fu:
The only exceptions are doing nose-pivots, fatigue or mechanical issues.

I sometimes need 3 because my brakes are horrible :(
I have been using 1 finger on brake for long time.. but i only use one finger for front and rear with two.. since front is hydro and rear is mech. I prefer 1 finger most of the time except for hard braking. but i thought it was weird too.. i was reading that magazine and i read that article too.. like most of the time they say use one finger.. well in the previous issues they did say 1 finger is the best way to go =S indeed. I say 1 finger for most of the time.. so u dont lock ur front wheel.
