i have the same truck but the 05 model……have to say i'm loving it.
Has anyone who signed up for the toyota test drive/free t-shirt deal gotten a call back? Wasn't the deadline the end of March?
Any dealership I call knows nothing about it.
Anyone know anything about the deal?
I'm a gearbox-bike nut.
hey cam, don't know if your aware of it or not, but there is a few TSB's out there for the toyota's. if the truck is bottoming on the rear leafs pretty easily, or there squeeking, there are 2 fix's available for free from toyota. there is also a tailgate stiffer, as a few people have bent their tailgates.
Tacoma auto 4x4 double cab long bed:
26k USD

that price you could get the Nissan frontier which has 25+ horsepower advantage, hill start control and hill descent control + locking diff (dana 44)
I've been looking at midsize trucks however I am looking in the used market, low miles, 1-2 years old.
The Depreciation on the Nissans is greater than the Toyotas, which makes them the better deal in the used market.
The drivetrain and suspension on the Ranger is nice too, the interior fit and finish isn't up to par with the toy or Nissan, but you're also saving almost 10,000.
One of these is not like the others.
I spoke to Cam and they are emailing everyone who entered the contest next week with details on the test drive offer and the offer is open until the end of April.
And yes you can buy a Nissan for less money then a Yota but that's like comparing a CCM to a Knolly.

 whatever you need to tell yourself

LOL! FTL on that one. Nissan has been a hidden gem for years! Same reliabilty, quality and features for cheaper prices. All I know is that when my current nissan poops the bed, which @ 290000kms it doesn't look like its gonna be anytime soon, I'll be getting into another one.
Also, the comparison would be more accurate with Ford, yet still not true. Ford's trucks and SUVs have come a long way. I wouldn't for a second discount the Ranger if considering a small pickup. 1000's of $$$ cheaper, stellar warranty programs, good reliabilty, and tons of big-truck trickle down features from the F150 line-up where as the japanese automakers are taking small truck features and morphing them to fit their big trucks.
I've always had jap trucks but the Rangers get pretty good reviews for reliability. Aren't they now made in partnership with Mazda?
I want my next vehicle to be fully electric

Before I get flamed to death I should clairify that I actually like Nissan a lot, I've just been a Yota faithful for years since my firse 81' pick-up. The Frontier is a hell of good truck, I just prefer the Tacoma for it's larger size, better fit and finish, resale and reliability. Plus even though Nissan states a more horsepower then my 06, it can fully pull away from 07on the highway and I get better gas milage with the 4.0L auto then my bro does with his 07.
I'm stoked to see Yota stepping up to support the NSMBA too. Either way, what are we doing talking trucks, this is a bike site.

rry?
wow, M&M, you're a fucking dick!
don't be so politically correct, this is stacy kohut, not fucking rick hansen your talkin too……..
rry?
They sure did. Toyota had a full fleet doing shuttles one of the Rippers last year.
Sorry, didn't mean to start a vehicle debate on a MTB forum,
The Ranger, Toy and Nissan are all great trucks, and anyone of us would do well with any of those three.
In bulletproof drivetrains I would give it to the ranger though, The engine has been refined for decades, the transmissions and the Ford 8.8 differential can do double duty in 1000hp+ drag cars, and the transfer cases are similar to the engine, tried and true.
Plus all of them are easy to work on from the driveway, partly because of a very well designed placement and engine bay and partly because they lack a lot of the electronic gadgetry that the Nissan and Toyota has (I think the newer Nissans even use fiber optic data cables to communicate between systems.)
One of these is not like the others.
The reason I bought a Ranger was because of A) Price, and B) Reliability. You can buy two Rangers for the price of one Tacoma (albeit the Taco will be a nicer truck). Plus, they're so frickin' simple that there's not much to go wrong with them. Its not uncommon to see a Ranger with 300-400k on them.
Toyotas are nice trucks, but they're going off a reliability record they had 10-15 years ago. The domestic trucks have caught up and for the longest while their engines were better [HTML_REMOVED] more powerful (still is in HD obviously).
Anyone price out a new '08 Tundra? Holy mother of fuck balls its expensive. Nice, but expensive.
My next truck will be the new Silverado probably.
