re. trailforks and 'completions', I've noticed that when I've had on the bike routing problems from trailforks routes on my garmin, getting told off course, etc., the trail alignment is generally old or from a shitty gps track, so the trails need to be edited to follow the general heatmap/activity tracks. Yeah it's another hassle for sure, I'm a mapping dork, so I'll sit and edit a bunch of trails at a time like that and submit them, but it's not something the average user is equipped to do.
For any route or event planning in the future, would pre-riding a route with a Garmin MapGPS (or even more accurate device that is fairly accurate under tree cover) to obtain a better gpx track, result in better ride completion recognition from Trailforks?
You would not "snap" the gpx track to the Trailfork mapped trails, so the route would appear as just one long trail. And is there a way to customize to make the recognized "corridor" wider?
The alternative would be to use an alternate app like Trackleaders (the app used by most North American bikepack races, but as it is a live tracker it requires a satellite transmitter/tracker, and therefore extra cost and complexity)
I feel like making a Strava segments would do it?
United Riders of Cumberland put on a yearly virtual race series. Maybe reach out to them and see how they do it.
To be honest you could nit pick endlessly about the route and best way to track riders efforts. Keep it simple and stick to Strava if possible.
Hmm actually if one wanted a bit more accuracy there is a way to do it I think.
IMO Virtual racing is so 2021, when nobody wanted to breathe someone else's air. Thanks for your efforts though.
It wasn't so much an attempt at creating a race, as it was an attempt to create an In Real Life group ride that wouldn't require all the permits, insurance and bureaucracy (and could be unofficially competitive for those that cared in the virtual underground, such as it is for bikepack races).
As the route is, next time I want to challenge myself, I will start on Seymour and add Dales and delete the west side of Baden Powell to Powerline to access Forever After
the challenge will be 100 trails (as recognized by Trailforks or the significant portions/most popular portions of trails), ~100 km, ~10,000 feet (3048 m) climbing, in less than 10 hours

100km and 3000m of climbing in under 10hrs?

38t chainring or bigger only. :-p
@syncro @Kenny
looks like you guys are in for a go next year
Sounds good! My guess is I'd need closer to 12 hours currently, assuming I didn't implode completely on the last 3rd, but I'm trending in a positive direction fitness-wise, so maybe it'll be in reach next year. :)
Seems like it might have a similar vibe to this old "race":

Some would call you out on you taking an abelist stance.
While dismissive reality is virtual events and races actually allows those who cannot for various reasons participate in the event/race in person. Gee this ironically encourages inclusion and diversity in events and races.
The route I was thinking of has been made public.

Note: there's a slight error and the start should be at inter-river park in the same spot as the finish.
@everyone
that poker rider looked like a great time
and with everyone able to choose their own route, it can encourage inclusion and diversity

Haha. I was trying to stick with the 100km mark with as little pavement as possible. My first iteration had the first lap on Seymour going up to CBC, and I even entertained the idea of doing a bigger section of the power lines on the west side. I also debated about doing a double lap on Seymour first, then two on Fromme but went with a single on Seymour, two on Fromme and back to Seymour for the second. The idea was to try and eliminate any doubling up of climbing sections and try and provide some flat pedaling breaks in between the climbing while avoiding pavement. I'm still going to play with things a bit, maybe change some of the descents too.
