The $57M assessed value mentioned in the NS News article is just for the Blair Range section, the value for the whole 644 acres, according to DNV's GeoWeb site, is almost $200 million.
CMHC's announcement tomorrow will be more anticipated than any statement they've ever made about mortgage insurance.

Except that they completely fail to mention the new signs close the trails to ALL users - hikers, runners, dog walkers, etc. The article is misleading as it suggests that only mountain bikers are affected.
Should email the reporter as a hiker or dog walker, or a trail runner, as Im' sure many of you also are walkers/runners too.

I don't understand the "environmental impact" argument regarding mountain bike trails. As someone replied to one of the comments, mountain bike trails are "two foot wide paths in the woods". If you look at BC for example, basically 95% of the land is untouched forest, the remaining 5% is used by humans (mostly for housing development, farming, forestry, mining, roads, etc.) and of that 5% that is used by humans, probably 0.0000001% contains mountain bike trails. So to say that we shouldn't build mountain bike trails because it hurts the environment is ridiculous.
I'm not saying that mountain biking should just go and create trails anywhere and everywhere they please, but to suggest that mountain bike trails as a whole have any sort of remotely substantial environmental impact is complete BS.
I'm sure they don't care about hikers and dog walkers. Far more likely it's the mountain bikers building a trail network with wooden sructures etc that they're pissed about.

That may be true, but their signs don't distinguish between users, so apply to everyone. If they just wanted to exclude biking, they could have specifically stated that on the sign, and left all other users free to use the land.
I'm optimistic that this is just a case of them wanting to get new signs out there for liability purposes. It sounds like the few signs that existed previously would have likely failed the requirements that they be plainly visible and easy to read at ordinary access points.

It's honestly not as bad as I thought it would be, though. Sure, all the usual one-sided, partially-informed (and less) opinions are represented, but I feel like it could get way worse.
Unfortunately, several mountain bikers have piped up in there with comments that are NOT going to help the cause. Let's remember to take the high road and not engage in name-calling. And don't engage with Monica, period. She'll do a good enough job of exposing her faulty logic without anyone needing to point it out. The Province's comment boards are not where access to the trails on Seymour is going to be won or lost.

Ironic that this facebook post ended up getting all users banned when their intention was to get only bikers banned.
Then trying to blame bikers for the current situation is laughable.
So it's Monica's fault that families are now banned from hiking and walking on Lower Seymour? I'm sure all those parents and kids living in Blueridge are just thrilled and lining up to thank her for that.
