Really all it takes is a little common sense and mutual respect. On a real two way trail, uphill has right of way. On a trail that one cannot climb up except on foot, downhill has the right of way. If there are hikers it is best to defer to them just because. At least have the conversation.
Debate? Bikes are made for riding not pushing.
At least have the conversation.
All the bad interactions I have had with riders and trail runners have happened with those fully plugged into their Ipod. Can't hear a bell or some one calling out yet get all hostile when they suddenly have a heart attack because they can't hear shit while grooving to whatever on their Ipod.

totally true. the only 'negative' interactions I've generally experienced are exactly because of others wearing headphones and not being able to hear shit when you're calling out coming behind them…then they finally do because now you're right behind them and they freak out jumping out of the way like you were going fast about to mow them down, when you were actually going slower than them.

I feel almost any Green or Blue trail I've ridden is bi-directional.
I'm unsure what would make a Black climbing trail. Length, ? of incline, technicality of surface? At what point would a Black rated climbing trail become a Black rated descending trail?
In high traffic areas is there signage at trail exits stating that this is the exit of a predominately downward sloping trail not suitable for climbing?
Why slag free swag?
ummm, as your doctor i recommend against riding with a scaphoid fracture.

i think a black ascent would be something like a blue descent, but that doesn't mean the whole thing would be climbable by most competent riders. for example, i see severed as a blue descent, but there are sections that i would class as not climbable by most riders. i would call old buck from the road to the corkscrew lot a black climb with a good mix of tech and steep. but of course this is only speculation from my times of hiking that part of the trail.
We don't know what our limits are, so to start something with the idea of being limited actually ends up limiting us.
