So I'm new to the whole forum thing (normally I stick to automotive forums) and I feel like I'm beating a dead horse this late into the thread, but logic comes into mind with this one. You wouldn't stand on train tracks if there's an incoming train, wouldn't it be the same principle for this?

Not a very good analogy. Pretty difficult for a train to slow down and go around you. Pretty easy for these guys to do so. There wasn't much risk of a collision here.
