So it's been four seasons since I bought my wife a V1 loaded Bronson in size M. She is 5'7" and 115 lbs of muscle. It's time to get her something new. She rides a little of everything. We have a place on the island and the Bronson is a great bike over there 6"x6" and only 26lbs. I want to get her something that would ride a bit "bigger" for over here on the shore and in Vancouver without sacrificing the pedalability of the ride up. She likes technical climbs, alot.

I am looking at the 2018 yeti's as they are on sale. The SB6 (27.5 wheel size) seems nice and would be similar to what she has but with a little slacker and longer geo with 10mm more travel up front. This being said, everyone seems to be buying 29er yeti's. I am nervous about getting such big wheels for a shore/squamish bike for a light 5'7" woman.

Thoughts?

PS, the poll should say something else, not sorting else - damn spell check

You have to look at the stack on a long travel 29er. I’m 5’5” and I think I’d need a flat bar and maybe negative rise stem to get the bars low enough for me. But she’s taller and I think fit would not be an issue. Wheel size would be fine though.

Definitely get her a demo day on a 29er before purchase. There are some dramatic trade offs, especially for a shorter rider.

2019 Bronson....? 🌝

Yeti SB6's are great. Been on one for 2 years. They climb alot better than i thought they would and are love being pointed downhill. Still a fairly playful bike as well. Mine isn't 26lbs though as it has a heft build. I like it significantly more than the Bronson i demo'd the day before i bought the yeti. Im pretty sure Arbutus Routes has ex-rental sb-6's if they are still open.

She already rides with a flat bar and stem flipped, although there are a few spacers still. We looked at the new Bronson, but given that the 2018 yeti's are on sale.....

I am 6'2" and have a 29er hardtail and a 27.5 evil dual Sus. I have tried the wrekoning and although it rolls over everything the 27.5 is more fun for me and a much more easily maneuverable bike. On tight steep stuff like is on the shore I feel like a 29er would be cumbersome. She likes steep and tight, she doesn't like riding fast so I feel like the main advantages of the 29er would be lost.
