Thanks to everyone for thinking of our friend who passed. He was a very experienced and passionate rider and he will be missed by those who loved him.

I don't intend any disrespect , but-please don't speculate too much on what he did and didn't do, or what his companion did or didn't do. Also, if you run into trouble, don't hesitate to call search and rescue. And keep a space blanket on you. Life is precious. Enjoy yourselves, take care of each other, and be safe.Thank you.

Let us know if we can help in any way, please.

RIP fellow rider. Although we may be strangers, we were still connected by our passion for enjoying life in the outdoors on a bike. My deepest condolences to your family and friends.

Update from WVPD

The West Vancouver Police Department is releasing further information following the tragic events of May 7, 2012, which resulted in the death of a mountain biker on Cypress Mountain.

The victim, a 43-year-old male from Vancouver, was riding with two friends. He was reportedly a very experienced mountain biker and familiar with the Cypress Mountain trails. The victim was wearing a full faced helmet, goggles, body armor, and gloves. The bike was equipped with front and rear suspension and disk brakes which was appropriate for the mountain terrain. The male was attempting a jump, in steep terrain, on the biking trail known as [HTML_REMOVED]#8220;Coiler[HTML_REMOVED]#8221;. Upon landing, the male was ejected over the handle bars of the bike and subsequently collided with a tree, resulting in blunt force trauma. First aid was administered immediately by the victim[HTML_REMOVED]#8217;s fellow riders however the victim succumbed to his injuries and died at the scene.

[HTML_REMOVED]#8220;It is apparent that this is an unfortunate and tragic accident, involving a very experienced and prepared rider,[HTML_REMOVED]#8221; commented Cst. Tammy Khorram, spokesperson for the West Vancouver Police Department.

I feel for his friends and family.

It must have been extremely hard on the riders that were there with him, during and after the incident.

Do the NSMBA website or this one have anything in place to start a collection for the guy's family? I'd think something could be added easily to web-stores for either site.

There are obviously a lot of people shocked and saddened by this event that want to show support for the fallen rider and his family.

There's no place like fromme

It's a small community. Turns out buddy rode with this fellow on occasion.

RIP, condolences to family and friends.

There is no news on if or when there will be a way to set up some kind of fund. Thank you very much for the sentiment and the condolences-the kindness is a real comfort. Will post here if there is any news.

We are keen to do whatever we can but we want to make sure that this aligns with the rider's family's wishes.
