There's a proposal to the Sooke council to get a bike park skills center on a piece of old
golf course land. The park which has been approved for a long time. This park is not on
any sensitive land, mostly brush and scrub has grown here since it was cleared many years
ago. There's no water fowl, frogs or pretty much anything I can't find in my backyard.
This is her letter, and she needs to find a better war to fight:
I would have copy/pasted it but it is a picture on a pdf.
Dear District of Sooke Parks Planners:
I will nver begin to understand why so many parks and public forest planners wish to destroy a nice natural area in order to carer to what is essentially off-road unmotorized dirt biking. Not only are these renegade mountain bikers/dirt bikers destroying our forest trails, but also insist on ugly mounds of earth and amusement park structures to be built on parkland, and call it a Bike "skills" Parks.
Parks and public forest authorities have to be willfully blind not to see the kind of damage all this off-road dirt biking is doing to our natural environment --for cheap thrill. I have seen too many very nice arks ruined by such Bike "skills" parks, which seem to be cropping up everywhere, and used as a "jumping point" to rip and shred more inside out public forests, on and off-trail. Not very nice.
If you "need" to build such a Bike Park, why not delegate it to an old quarry or gravel pit -- not on perfectly good natural parkland. That would make a lot more sense and it not displace the majority who wish to use the park for passive pursuits. Please don't ruin a perfectly good park for a few aggresive minority mountain bikers/BMXer's. Those bike "skills" parks are as ugly as sin and are a blight to any natural parkland.
If you really "have to", place them where they will do no environmental damage. For such dirt bikers/mtn. bikers, it is all about the thrill of the ride, not the scenery…It is a very nature-defict sport that should not be allowed to rip and shred natural parkland for a cheap thrill-ride. Period. Thank you.

She has obviously never been here or she would know this is the perfect place she describes
for us to put this park. The park will include a multi-use circuit for walkers, hikers and
biking that goes around the 18,000sq meter park.
Monica, I know you read this forum…This park will be a far better looking "thing" when
it's done than the large housing development that abuts the proposed park on a major (for Sooke)
road. You make as much sense as a Canadian George Bush or Mitt Romney supporter. You have
no clue.
