Saturday, September 24, 10 AM to 11 AM, meet Mathew at United Strangers for coffee and chat and an MTB ride at 11...

2 PM Canteen Village lunch.  Have you checked this place out yet?  Amazing Italian takeout, Portland style...

Can't believe I have not checked out Canteen Village yet. The food looks fantastic.

I'd love to see more semi-permanent setups like this on empty lots in North Vancouver. Might be an opportunity to get a bike repair shop in the Parkgate area without having someone driving a truck around all day doing mobile repairs or having to contend with the epic-high rents from the supply/demand of commercial space.

He also brought BCBR to the shore skinnies in 2020.

Every vote counts to get a mayor who doesn’t hold his campaign launch at the Westin.

Mathew Bond ( for Mayor)

What have you done, or will you do to advocate in support of active transportation infrastructure in your city and why?

I use my cargo bike as my primary mode of transport with my two young children and have worked diligently to advance a connected and protected network of safe and convenient infrastructure for people when they choose to walk, roll and bike since I was first elected in 2014. I am not an "avid cyclist", I bike because it is the best option to get around that brings me good health and joy,
Specifically, I brought forward a motion in 2016 to prioritize a connected network of protected bike facilities. I have worked with staff over successive budget cycles to shift the District's approach to the delivery of active transportation infrastructure from one of opportunistically tacking on bike lanes to disconnected road projects, to an approach that prioritizes high cycling opportunity connections between our town centres, the City of North Vancouver and the Lions Gate Bridge and Ironworkers Memorial Bridge. Over that time, our budget for active transportation has increased from less that $1M a year to almost $10M annually.
I also worked to change perspectives on Council by hosting annual ""Bike To Council"" rides during Bike to Work / Go By Bike week to bring fellow Councillors and senior staff for a highlights/lowlights tour of the bike routes in the District.

Jordan Back - for council

What have you done, or will you do to advocate in support of active transportation infrastructure in your city and why?

I have been a strong advocate for greater investments in active transportation, such as the facility on E 29th Street and the, now underway, Lynn Valley Road Active Transportation Project. I also am a regular e-bike user, and regularly commute and move around the community with my 2 young kids via an e-cargo bike.

Up to this point, as a resident of the District of North Vancouver, I have been a strong advocate for the cycling community. Many of my posts on social media reflect my position in favour of increased infrastructure and budgets to make cycling comfortable and accessible for everyone.
As a councillor, I would strongly advocate for the acceleration of the BMP and the completion of safe routes for cyclists.
When I ran four years ago, I called for mandatory bike storage and suitable electrification of that storage in all new construction.
I very strongly support cycling and believe we are obliged to create a safe space for those who are not in cars

Also a bunch that did not respond...

Some councillors are generally "associated" with one Mayoral candidate? Is that information available anywhere? It is not immediately obvious in many of the bio's I have read but something that I'd like to know.

Anyone we should not vote to council as mountain bikers?

I'm not sure, but I'm happy you read the Hub survey! The candidate's responses certainly are enlightening. You can tell who rides a bike and who sits in traffic.

I do know these candidates were with Mathew at the Lynn Valley Legion on Sunday.

check the rest of his IG, his latest is pedaling to his last council meeting as a councilor. You might notice teeter totters will likely be supported, but I seriously doubt any new bylaws about them will be proposed.

Not a question I am able (neither willing nor knowledgable) to answer. The Directions seem pretty good these past three years. All Candidate's meetings are great ways to get informed though.

https://www.dnv.org/council-directions-2019-2022

Personally, I'll vote for change but informed change. Who's been involved locally, who's helped transform the District already? Who's been bickering and infighting? Who has ethics required for public service?

(check Mathew's latest video of him riding to the last council meeting today, he mentions it's #gobybike week and that it's interesting to see why Pigeongate is on the last council meeting before the election.

I'll let you read the report and make your own opinion about conflict of interest and codes of ethics. It only took me a few pages of skimming to make my list:

PS, who knows about a P.Eng. code of ethics? Yes, this registered P.Eng. is Bond. Mathew Bond.

Head to page three to see Councillor Jim Hansen's view on parking in the Blueridge area (Hyannis/Berkley):

https://blueridgeca.org/wp-content/uploads/2022/04/BCN_2022_03.pdf

As a Blueridge resident, I do not support making the area resident only parking (and yes, I live on a street where visitors park to access the trails).

I would like to see the spots at the top of Hyannis Point right at the trailhead be designated as accessible parking spaces.

It would also be great to see creation of "hubs" like Squamish has, with washrooms, tool stand, bike wash, etc.. that encourage distributed parking

good info. thanks.

Funny that there is no mention of baseball in that report..... Just trail users? My kids both play baseball and that field is at least 20 cars per game back to back on Saturdays throughout the spring...

I never drive to that trail head but always drive to Baseball...

That’s the kind of feedback council needs to hear.  Of course baseball has fees paid to use the city park, hmmm…

Follow the money.
