Is there a bike scene in Regina SK?

I will be leaving the shore area to work and live in Regina Sk from Aug 28-Dec 31.

Should I bother bringing a bike? If so, what bike should I bring?

The research I've done so far is telling me no indoor BMX tracks, or indoor mtb areas.
I'm seeing a bit of bicycle friendly roads through the middle of town, which currently has me leaning towards bringing my cyclocross bike, but with the possibility of early snow, I really don't know if I should bother with a bike at all.

My guess is no bike at all, probably better hitting up a gym and spinning to keep your fitness up.

Get some XC skiing in when the snow comes, you can become the cardio king

cyclecross if anything. the roads are covered in sand even in the summer (the place never recovers from winter) and winter will come in October so you want something you can ride in snow. it doesn't actually snow much there, but it is tres cold.

Buffalo Pound Provincial park

A little north east is the Fort Qu'appelle Valley, which is really nice area actually. When I was little we were on some trails there. Surely they still exist. If no riding, at least for some nice rolling terrain and lakes to chill out at.

Edit: actually if you haven't spent time on the prairies and are looking to road trip it around the prairies, it may sound nuts, but head to Riding Mountain National park in Manitoba. It's a 3.5 hour drive to Clear Lake though, but the trail systems are nice. I grew up there and the North Escarpment trails are the only trails between Calgary and who-knows-where-Ontario that actually point downhill somewhat. It's an 800m escarpment so you get some nice prairie views, and some old school klunker style DH.

Otherwise do weekends in Cowtown…

Check out the Wascana Trails - about 8km from town.

It ain't the North Shore, but it's about as good as it gets around there. A cross bike might be okay here, but I think you'll be begging for something a little rowdier. There are some very steep descents with baby heads and stuff. My choice would be to go full suspension XC.

Snow flies in late October…but you can still ride frozen dirt if you don't mind the chill. There's really not a lot of accumulation. It all seems to blow somewhere.

Having a bike is a good idea anyway. There are bike paths all over the city.

My $0.02 worth.

Haha there used to be a crew that would ride urban every week, lots of stuff to jump off. But that was in 2002..

Is there a Vancouver in Taiwan?! I had no idea!!

Ha Ha . Ya back in the early 2000's there was a scene in saskatoon and regina. Jumping off bridge and overpass embankments . quite a few warranty returns from them flatlanders! Pun fully intended.

Thanks guys and gals! I rep'd who I could.

It's sounding like it will be worth bringing my CX bike. I'm running plastic flats on it because the metal clips pretty much kept me off the bike during the really cold days in the winter. It should be perfect for Regina.

I'd prefer to only have one bike, so I'm still thinking that I'll probably leave the old dj/street/trail hardtail at home at this point. Need to see if I can find any dirtjump or street-huck videos before I leave though.
