Take it to squamish

And the Fraser Valley. And Victoria. And the Sunshine Coast.

There's nothing better than an Orangina after cheating death with Digger.

I think a true XC bike is useless on the Shore for the vast majority of riders. Yeah there are lots of hardcore guys that will tell you that they can ride any trail with it, etc. but for the average rider who rides for a bit of fun and fitness, I don't think a pure XC bike is the most appropriate ride for 90% of the trails on the Shore. Yeah you can get down a lot of trails on it, but is the smoother ride up really worth the extra beating that you'll take on the way down?

No, a full XC bike is good fun on the Shore. I ride a 100mm 29'er with a 71 deg HTA. Works just fine.

Agreed, just throw a dropper and some decent tires on it and it'll be fun on 80% of the Shore trails. Ripping fast up and plenty of bike down.

Personally, I love how quick my 100mm Tallboy is on Seymour and Fromme in general. It is super quick on the twisty trails and only requires a bit more diligence with speed control through the rougher stuff. I have a new SC Highball 29 and I'm itching to take it to Seymour.

I wouldn't say a true XC bike is useless on the Shore, probably not as fast, arguably more "interesting" and fun, depending on what your definition of fun is.

Personally I like to revisit the Shore with the XC bike (alumn hardtail, 100mm travel, steepish HTA, no dropper, narrow-ish bars) once in a while.

It's kind of like a palette cleanser before getting back on the full squish bike.

An XC bike set up like this for WC is useless on the Shore.

XC bikes more like the Element BC edition would be much better.

A real XC bike can be fun on the shore… but the question is, would you have MORE fun on a bigger bike?

For me the answer was definitely yes.
