Thats crap. My girlfriend loved that practising there. Have all the jumps been flattened too?
The jumps were still there two days ago, but who knows if they're staying.

My question is when and why did the nsmba step away from maintaining it?
Remember this is only what a BMX guy told me - I don't know for a fact that NSMBA was formally asked. Would love to hear from someone who has insight.
A couple of replies in the thread were sitting in the mod queue, probably due to low post count. I've approved them now, maybe go back and re-read.
A similar thing happened on Bowen, the woodwork was deemed unsafe so metro vancouver tore it down and while they were at it flattened all the jumps too. As far as I know there are no plans to replace them.
My guess is that the people at NSMBA are busy maintaining and advocating for actual trails in the forest. Skills parks should be funded and maintained like a playground.
NSMBA secured partial funding for the park in 2006 through the Vancouver Foundation. Jay Hoots was the contractor for the project.
The NSMBA did do some maintenance work in past years, but I guess they no longer have time for this project.
I would contact Graham Knell at the DNV to ask what is happening with this park.

This was done at a time when the NSMBA was working on more community involvement and engaging youth. It was good to have Jay involved since he was already involved with this.
You do need an advocate for such a project to make it successful.

It appears the organisation was involved from the build until 2010.Heck, I thinnk I may have even helped during the build (memory foggy).
NOnetheless, not the nsmba's responsibility, but how could the District let a rec resource get in such a state of disrepair that it had to be decomissioned? We're not talking about a trail in the forest here, but features in a playground.
If a swing or slide needs repair,do they cut it down and walk away without a word as well?
WORD!
common senseā¦..Whats common about sense?!
DNV has been trying for a couple of years to get someone to take responsibility for the MTB part of the park. The BMX guys have put a tonne of money and effort into the BMX track but do not have the time or funds to maintain the MTb side.
Eventually because nobody was stepping up to the plate on the Mtb side, and the structures were dilapidated, the district removed them. The DNV has been in touch with NSMBA and to my knowledge someone associated with NSMBA ( but not officially the NSMBA) will be working towards putting in a dirt pump track.

Good question.
It puts the land managers in a tough situation when a group that has been around for so long can't maintain projects that were started by past leaders.
The onus is on the organization to show that they can maintain and sustain projects that they started otherwise it becomes someone else's problem.
Why should the land managers trust this lot when they can't maintain previous commitments?

you know what, that's a bit harsh. i agree that the removal of the structures is a loss to the community, but we don't know the whole story. to label the nsmba the way you have is unfair and uncalled for with the amount of info currently available.
We don't know what our limits are, so to start something with the idea of being limited actually ends up limiting us.

So who's an NSMBA member and got the update email today?

I didn't see anything about this in there? I actually got paper mail from the nsmb yesterday, they must know I'm old.
Look again. Scroll down. (Not the paper copy)
I missed it too.
Inter River Update
The DNV has inspected and deemed the woodwork in the area as a hazzard and have removed. The NSMBA is working with the DNV to create a plan to implement this summer that includes a new pump track and dynamic jump zone for skills progression.
