Looks like some exciting news for inter river.

DNV has awarded a contract (https://www.bcbid.gov.bc.ca/open.dll/welcome?language=En) to Alpine Bike Parks (http://www.alpinebikeparks.com/). Took a look at their previous work, looks like North Van could get a really cool pump track! Quickly too, the work completion date is October 30th, 2019....

couldn't be any worse than what is there now.  Can't believe that work was acceptable.

I walked the track yesterday...it is pretty bad. I'm hopeful, the work that Alpine shows on their website looks fabulous!

Is it design build? I'm not seeing any tender drawings or am I slow?

Yes design build.  $345k so it's gonna be good!

Ooh I quite like invergarry. Having something similar in north van would be excellent 👌

Hmmm just looked at the RFP docs and I'm guessing here but I don't think it'll be like invergarry. The stated scope in the RFP was to fix the mini asphalt pump track, pave the dirt pump track, and build a new pump track. Pump tracks are great but so is variety. Hopefully alpine proposed some jump lines and whatnot for the $345k...

Shameless crosspost/hijack but please fill out Vancouver survey about the proposed pump track at Vanier Park.   It's short.

Survey

Survey completed. A pump track would be a great addition to the vanier park jumps!

I think that Alpine is allowed to modify the pump track if necessary....would be nice to have some variety! There is quite a bit of space there to work with.

Just for some info... Alpine did the Stevie Smith Memorial Bike Park in Nanaimo... it's one of their projects in the link, this one here - http://alpinebikeparks.com/project/stevie-smith-bike-park

It is an amazing bike park bar none.  To be clear, the asphalt pump tracks (one mini and one maxi) were built by Velosolutions (they built most of them worldwide).  The big one is crazy fun and is a stop on the Redbull Pump Track World Championship.  But I believe Alpine subbed that part to them..?  All in I believe, at the time, this park was about $400,000 give or take... (and didn't include the existing BMX race track, though it may have had some refurbishing).

And now the Stevie Smith park is on it's way to getting lights.  The Stevie Smith Legacy Foundation teamed up with Crank Bros to create the F15 Stevie Smith Memorial Edition Tool.  All the profits from sales go towards getting the park it's lights.

A little tidbit more information from the district...light on details, but gives a timeline (September to November 2019). Does seem fast??

This work is only asphalt pump track, so will probably not be subcontracted...But the budgets are similar, so we can only hope for similar results.

Theres a new tarmac pumptrack next to the Spirit trail at Moody & Second. Still fenced off for park construction but looks pretty nice. Bigger rollers than the kids track at IR.
