I'll believe it when I see it...Squamish Gondola
I'm pretty sure it'll happen, they're well into the approval process at this point.
This idea was kyboshed on the Chief previously. Considering the success of the peak2peak on whistler and the Grouse Gondola this could be a good tourist attraction for Squamish.
As for xc mountain bike trails. I don't think there are any currently in that area so they'd have to be built.

Pffft.
Good luck getting a building permit in that town or anything that requires municipal approval.

Wow, now that's an unexpected piece of news.
I'll be watching this one closely.
:rocker:
wonder if they're gonna put a casino up there for the cruise ship crowd, that would be super cool!
this has been talked about for years in the district of squamish…
What's the length and vert? Would it run in winter for bc skiing access? And……why just xc trails? Why not dh and fr? Seems like it would make sense. Sounds cool to me, Euro style lift access is pretty cool imho.
It's from more or less ~2700' to sea level according to Pique News. The front side is pretty damn steep - I don't think I'd like to ride down it.
access towards brittania, ya know…….rec trails/back country access is a pretty big part of the plan, it's a pretty underutilized part of Squamish and there's a lot of Squamish trails that are under legitimate threat to development going forward….I don't think this isn't a bad thing to have in the pipes

ya, boss and co-workers were doing some enviro field work up there….I don't think there'll be trails down the frontside…only one really I think is a hiking trail connecting over to the chief…
Word is that July 1st, 2013 is the target opening date. Breaking ground this fall.
It may be worth checking the Starbucks website. That would give you a pretty good idea as to when it will be opening.
I'm curious what segment of the population they'd be after. Summer crowd or winter crowd?
Looking at Shannon Falls to put that in perspective, the descent could have some pucker factor.
