How's the hiking on/off of the West Side Road on Cypress? Frankly, I've never checked it out and am always looking for new hiking routes.

Boooooiiiiinnnggg!
I can't find much info on the West Side Road anywhere. Just wondering if it's worth walking along to Baden Powell? I'm trying to figure out how to combine getting some snow for wife and dawg, yet deal with a RWD truck….. Maybe park at the bottom of Old Forks / MDH, hike up and turn right along West Side?

wow you are a ass
Park at the second lookout parking area . The hairpin corner where sex boy/girl start . walk in with the dog at the old gravel service rd entrance that you would access wild cherry from .(directly west from parking entrance . yellow service gate) continue along and up the Power lines double track. good snow dog walk that is nice for us as well.clear sky nights in the snow , no need for lights even.

Ah good call. I'd forgotten about that car park as I normally ride up the BLT, but I've ridden up from where you mean.

It's a great area to hike up from, but is the Quarry parking lot still open? It usually gets shutdown in the winter.

It was open yesterday, but no idea on the rest of the winter.
We ended up hiking up TCT and turning right into the service area, down the CB Road and into the Old Growth / Blind Skier / [wrestler voice]ANTAGONIZOOOOOR[/wrestler voice] and had a great time.
We did notice that we broke two cardinal sins and will probably be damned to hell:
I'd never noticed that one is technically not allowed to cut through the service area. Loads of people do though and we exchanged 'hellos' to an employee who seemed happy enough to see us (dawg was on leash while walking passed the buildings) so I think we got away with it…
No dogs are allowed on that short trail in the Old Growth area. Didn't realize until we got to the trail head and sure as hell weren't going to turn around at this point! No turds were deposited and the local squirrel population remains the same so I think we passed through without too much drama. No idea if this is one of these rules that is really there to 'protect' humans rather than the environment though…. Either way, in three hours we saw no-one other than one service employee so hopefully with a few 'Hail Mary's we will still get to the promised land when the time comes.

Glad you enjoyed the Conservancy Crossing Trail through the Old Growth Conservancy.
DWV put the no dogs rule in place to protect the local flora. It's not actively enforced, so don't sweat about park rangers tracking down your Ip address. Still, it wouldn't be good for a commercial dog walker to be found in the area.
A lot of people believe that dogs don't have a big impact, but when fences are erected in some damaged areas the regrowth on the dog-free side can be quite noticeable! Lighthouse Park has good examples.

so fences have the ability to filter who they let by and who they keep out? .. cuz i thought that fences kept everything out and not just dogs…something about correlation and dependence should probably go here.
I'm ignoring Smedley.
