Hey everybody. I am new to the area, currently living in Richmond. I moved up here from Florida. I rode a lot of single track and XC. I have no idea where to ride in the area. Can anyone help?
Help!
Start with riding Fromme. You can start with the lower trails and then work your way up the mountain as your skills progress. Lower Seymour is also good for xc.
You can pick up "A local's guide to North Shore rides" at any bike shop; it will help you with being able to find suitable trails. It has maps of the trails and recommendations on which ones to ride based on your interests and skill level.
Thanks! Any recommendations on shops? Do you think my Jekyll will be able to handle the trails up here? 150mm
150mm is all you need for 80% of the lower mainland. If you are an avid rider you may want to get closer then Richmond. And don't get tunnel vision for the shore. There is way more to the area than the shore.
Start by relocating out of Richmond, nothing good will come from being there, unless you isolate yourself in steveston
Then check out Burnaby mountain, Burke mountain, and the Delta Watershed, and go from there
How do I get to the water shed? I went looking for it the other day and I ended up at a truck pull over area off the highway….thanks a lot for the help, it is much appreciated, I was starting to twitch!!
this should do it. Watershed is great, very mild grade on all the trails for riding up and riding down purposes
I'm happy to get outside and enjoy nature while I can, but I fear for the future of humanity

Pinewood Elementary.
You can download GPS trail mapps from trailmapps.com/itunes. Super useful.
There's nothing better than an Orangina after cheating death with Digger.
Pinewood Elementary.
I'd also recommend parking at Pinewood school too.
In years past there have been car break-ins in the lots along 64th (although I haven't heard of that happening recently.)
As others have said, start with riding the Delta Watershed and Burnaby Mtn to get used to BC riding.
+1 for starting on SFU/Burnaby Mountain. Great XC ish trails, with some technical features to warm you up for The Shore. The Jekyll should be a great bike for the majority of the riding around here.
Ride, don't slide.
Thanks!!
