watch a huge biff in any extreme sport video (Skate/bmx/mtb/etc.) and you will often see a shoe fly off, on the gnarliest slams
it seems that on the hugest slams, there is so much G Force going through the athlete that one of their shoes has to jump ship!
watch Wade's horrible "femur" incident on the canyon gap in one of the NSX vids, and if you slow-mo, you see his shoe go about 30 foot into the air :(

the thing that was impressive with that, was the Sun Doubletrack rim appeared to be untouched, all the spokes snapped instead!!
