NS News notice: Fromme Mountain Parking ans Staging Information Open House, Tuesday May 20th, 7pm-9pm, North Van Museum and Archivds building, 3203 Institute Rd. If you ride Fromme , this affects you, even if you dont park a car.

I coulnt find any mention of it or links to it on the DNV site buf maybe some of you sleuths can dig up more info. The cynic in me thinks that DNV would be happy to keep this on the DL and just have residemts attend. Anyway, this is the place to be if you want your voice heard.

Bad mobile spelling sorry

Notice is up on DNV web site

I like the bike washing stations ! Initially I wasn't so thrilled about the parking, but, getting more riders out lessens the chances of losing trails in the future. A financial commitment from the District like this, to me that means they have 100% committed to the future of mountain biking on the North Shore. Overall, a very good thing !

uh oh

"The results of our transportation and parking study, and a separate environmental impact study have identified the current drop-off area at the base of Mount Fromme (near the water towers) as the best site for an off-road parking and staging area"

:stupid::stupid: colossally stupid. I'm actually irritated that, after spending so much money and time, this is the best they could come up with.

There is no way that area can handle all the cars, which means either more cars driving up and down mtn hwy looking for parking, or it means clear-cutting some forest/trails to make room. And then again in a few years, and a few years after that etc…

more discussion here: http://bb.nsmb.com/showthread.php?t=145931

see you all at the meeting, I hope

While I find it hard to conceive of where they'll find the room at the water towers for parking, as long as parking restrictions on the streets remain as-is or get lifted/relaxed then this can only be an improvement to the supply of parking. So I don't think it will be productive to complain about the proposal if this is the case.

If street parking restrictions are to be stepped up/expanded then I think we DO have a problem as there's no way the total parking supply would be adequate due to the limited space near the towers.

At peak times, lots of people will drive up, find the lot full, drive back down. So when you're going for a ride/hike/dogwalk at those times, you'll be dodging cars and breathing in fumes and dust.

Solution: build better trail access that is not on the road.

Build a nice wide gravel multi-use trail 100 yards off Mountain Hwy to the east that runs from the first gate to the second gate.

Seriously, just ride from the mall. HTFU and pedal your damn bike. I know I'll get some heat from this but people need to realize that some things should be hard and not always given to you on a silver platter. The shore is becoming way to tame.
