Anyone know if the Fromme lot is open yet, and if so how early the gate opens?

This is likely due to help the City of Vancouver with consultation on the new City of Vancouver logo.

Area wide consultation is being undertaken to ensure the City of Vancouver is doing the right thing in replacing their old city logo that is outdated and boring.

The Fromme Gate is now open daily (unless snowmageddon part 3 arrives this weekend) until 6 p.m. Still lots of snow high up though.

The lot has been packed lately. On Sunday there were big groups of hikers as well. We got lucky and someone was leaving just as we arrived and nobody was waiting. Usually I don't mind grinding up the road but my son is just getting started and it's hard enough to get him up to Expresso!

I'm conflicted as to whether I like the fact that the Fromme lot exists... I am lazy and out of shape so initially I was happy when they put the lot in. But its so popular/busy now so I barely even try to park there knowing that I probably won't get a spot anyways, and parking lower down on Coleman gets to me psychologically knowing that there is a parking lot higher up that I could potentially park at and not have to climb as far. Hahaha it was almost better when there was no lot at all! I'm joking but also semi-serious. I find myself riding Seymour 90% of the time as a result.

Is it less busy at certain times? I remember even showing up super early on the weekend and the lot was already like 75% full.

You find Seymour any less busy? Old Buck lot is usually busier than a Costco parking lot!

At least if you need to park on Coleman you can get a long descent, or pop out on Dempsey.

I've only been riding on the shore and Fromme since 2011, but I find myself saying these days that it was better when there was no lot.  I can totally appreciate the fact that the lot has opened up the trails and mountain to a whole new number of people.  I see a lot more families and hikers on the trails and on mountain highway.

My issue is the shared road between the gate and the lot.  The speed is 20km, but most people are going way faster.  Back before the lot it was great to be able to ride up the gravel road with dogs off leash and not having to worry about some soccer mom who just wants to drop her kids off at the water towers and motor back down to grab a latte.

Digger is a prime example of how fast people should be driving on that shared roadway.

Now that the exit from the baden powell has been smoothed over I fear it's a matter of time before a cyclist meets the grill of a truck.

The DNV spent a ton of money on the lot and on no parking signage, however I only see on "20 kph" sign.

What they need is a seperate trail for the hikers and bikers to get back to the lot, one that is away from the cars.

Got my ass handed to me Sunday by an E MTB.  He passed us on the road and then Executioner after he climbed back up the climbing trail.   They're definitely out there.   I just hope he pedals from home and not the lot.

I am a little out of the loop on this one. E-bikes are permitted on Fromme?

Similar scenario for me. When solo i avoid the lot, but making the kid grind up the road would be a motivation killer. occasionally i have to drop him at the gate and do a valet run.

i'd be all over making this a pay lot to reduce traffic volume. chip in a percentage to nsmba. there's enough cued idling cars and (full lot discovering) looping traffic already.

there's certainly no one policing if they weren't. i don't think the district has a formal policy in place, regardless. on sunday i passed a couple dirt bikes coming down mountain hwy...
