Funny when you think about what folks are riding these days. The moves in the air are big and speeds are faster, but I think the technical level of riding is lower, as we get manufactured jumps with nice transitions and great landing zones. Sure, there's still some wingers out there, but the level of all-round technical skill and stupidity to ride Flying Circus, GMG, and some of the stuff on Eagle and Cypress at the time, was at another level that seems to have gone away.
I agree with the above statement, and I miss the more Tech rides.
In the 90's we used to climb up to Pink Starfish, Bitches, or UOC and it would take about 3 hours to pick your way down the mountain, we would session sections and really make a day out of it.
We used to climb up fromme in about 40 minutes and then take all day to get back down (I was on a Kona Explosif - with Project 2 forks and canti brakes). Now on my big rig, it takes me almost an hour to get up to Ladies or Pipeline, and I'm back down to the BP in 30 minutes or less. the rip down is almost too short and not worth the climbing required. Its fun and Flowy, and the trail is comming at you really fast which is exciting, but I feel its over to soon and makes the climb up too costly for the vertical return.
Its like sex, I'd rather go slow and do it all night than hammer it out in a few minutes.
I seems the old days of drops to flat with 90 degree turns at the bottom are gone. no one is building them or maintaining the old lines. Our brakes use to be so bad, you needed the flats landings and 90 degree turnsto speed check. the Flow of today is nice, but i miss the tech skills of some of the older trails. (i still have a hard time with the pond crossing on Ladies, and I'm sure it will be a 2' wide bridge soon).
Someone said skinnies are dieing off too. That's sad. I have 2 kids under 10, and I set up skinnies in the driveway (2x8, 2x6 and 2x4-minimum 10' long) for them to practice on all summer. I think it makes you better at body english if you learn to skinny

Life is like riding a bicycle in order to keep your balance, you must keep moving.

E-ville - just ride your Explosiv again and quitchurbitchin. :) The gnar is still out there, you just don't notice it.

No that's my buddy Fred. He's really hairy.
Debate? Bikes are made for riding not pushing.

i'm assuming this is a generational sentiment. those of us who rode in the old gnargnar stunt laden days seem to still pine for such things, however youngsters avoid these things like the plague on the most part. for this reason the trend towards disappearing tech [HTML_REMOVED] trails looking more like slopestyle courses will most likely continue as the old guard passes on the shovels. alas.
though my 3 yr old just loves riding logs, ladders [HTML_REMOVED] teeters, so there may be hope for the next generation.
The shore wouldn't be the legend that it is without all those stupidly high skinnies and other stuff.
