yup summer of 03 sucked. They closed the forests because fire crews were off fighting fires elsewhere in the province and were not available to respond if a fire started. I was so happy when it started to rain.
it gets this dry every summer. Usually not by June 1 though. The seasonal forecast shows lower precip and higher temps for the summer.

WHen it comes to trail closures, the sick thing is that the most likely sources of combustion is smoking and campfires. If we didn't have so many careless smokers (and idiot campers that have an uncontrollable need to start burning something the moment they get their tent up), the need to ban trails would not be so high.
One can suggest that brakes get hot, and dislodged rocks from hikers can create a spark, but there are no documented cases of forest fires spawning from such sources. This leads to the conclusion that the enjoyment of the woods is endangered by the minority of dull-witted selfish morons (campers, bikers and hikers alike) that simply cannot leave their smokes and lighters at home. Add to these the pyromaniac campers and the exceedlingly dim bulbs that take glass into the woods and leave it there, and boom…trailban. When faced with a few rotten apples, the system defers to putting a lid on the whole bucket.
It's so often the case that the selfish few impinge the freedom of the many.

I agree it is pretty dry for this time of year, not as dry as it can be. Usually June weather sucks. There also appears to be lots of dead branches on the forest floor(more than normal).
Back in 2003 even the jumps at loutet were closed, That was dry. Yesterday the fire sign at the bottom of seymour said moderate.

perfect actually, who really wants to work in scorching heat? and the dirt gets so dry you can't pack it in, so a bit of rain will be a good thing!
