a few years back me and some buddies took the water taxi up indian arm to wigwam then rode to squamish. the next day we rode to whistler and took the train home. we had to ride pretty hard to whistler to not miss that train, plus the fact we were hungover from the night in the chieftan.
Epic rides?

not an epic but I hear there are some sweet hot springs at the end of pit lake that you can ride into after taking a boat to the end. anyone tried it?

I know a guy who did it… it's just a logging road ride, but the springs are supposed to be great.

a nice ride of an epic nature is up to black tusk. you climb up the access road for a long time then up and over the tusk , you will need amap, but it involves a tram over some rapids, true alpine and some sweet down hill all kinds of stuff.including the biggest squirrel-gopher of all time..marmots.
well not actually over the tusk but around it , there are some crazy wierd lakes and things up there. its 17 km of climb , I middle ringed the whole thing…okay I didnt, but it'll test out your chamois.
Cheers for the info.
If I were to try Babylon by Bike, does Khyber Pass link into it?
And for those that wanted to, could they traverse across from Garbanzo lift? Is that a big bike-able route?
From the map it looks like you can head out on a forest road from the lift and get onto Khyber Pass before it turns off to Ride Don't Slide.
sorry matt i didn;'t have a chance to reply.
You should get one of the free maps from whistler. I've always ridden to Babylon/ I think you can get there from khyber but its a long haul. you can probably use Garbonzo to cut the climbing but it's still a long ass haul and you'll have to trespass on some closed whistler trails and they'll be pissed if they catch you as its used by trucks etc
for cybe's take garbanzo to nojoke where no joke hits the road start hiking to Cybers…takes about an hour to an hour and a half. there is no trespassing involved, drop in as you would if you rode cybers in the winter(at the cabin). when you finish and end up on the road. head up hill untill you meet a trail on the downhill side. that 's babylon. This is a long day and is an epic ride. Cyber is in amazing shape right now. It does not see a lot of traffic.
I rode tranquil lake yesterday. It was over cast and raining but was still in epic condition. 4900 feet of vert single track threw cloud soaked trees turning colour with the season.
If you feel like driving up to the pemberton valley its well worth it. Its a bike magazine photo annual for the whole trail
there some pics from both cybs and tanquil at modestbike.com
for a good local epic just do loops on fromme
up to 7th, back up for bookwus, back up for UOC, back up for upper [HTML_REMOVED] lower bitches OR jet boy/girl, then traverse back up the baden to exit on boundary.
a rider in decent shape should be able to do it in about 4 hrs
We don't know what our limits are, so to start something with the idea of being limited actually ends up limiting us.

Actually as far as I know this ride is a poach. It's a part of Garabaldi Park that is closed to biking. You can ride up to the radio tower at the Tusk but after that's closed.
I've been riding down in Bellingham a few times on Galbraith which is only an hour from downtown Van. You can do multiple loops that go forever. For a weekend trip I recommend Winthrop Washington

that could be.
Another semi poach is to ride up to Elfin Lakes (that part is allowed). Then you have to carry your bike up to the pass on the Gargoyles, across the saddle and up to Diamond Head (elev. 6800'). Follow Alice ridge down the old alpine route to the logging roads that take you to Alice Lakes. The trail dissappears in places, and there is a bit of a bushwack (maybe a couple hundred meteres) to the logging road section.
At least 6 hours, about 8000' of climbing, and roughly 60 km of riding.
Have fun
no that is a full poach. The ranger that used to look the other way was fired.
Poaching trails in a BC park is inexcusable. It ruins the rep of mountain bikers everywhere. How easy do you think it would be to keep CBC or other trails open that or near Parks if that is the perception of mountain bikers with the government. There are a ton of trails in this province what's the point of poaching?
The trail from Garabaldi Lake to Cheakamus Lake is closed to biking because it goes through an enviromentally sensitive area. That's why hikers can go through there but not camp. If your argument back is going to be what's the difference in damage between hikers and bikers on the same trail. Have a look at Bike mags photo annual from a few years ago of a rider skidding down this area. that rider was so cool:rolleyes:

if you want an epic, go up to the Chilcotins and so the spruce lake/windy pass ride. I did it a couple of years ago, from Mowson pond to the top and back was about 10 hours, at a pretty easy pace, but the altitude will get ya.
Had a grin on my face for a week after that ride.

Ian - I can't find the cybs pictures. You're right - there's an alternate way to get to Babylon w/o trespassing; i was going from memory; sorry Matt.
Matt get the free guidebooks from any shop which will give directions to Babylon. Its a long haul up
