The vast majority of people I've met on ebikes have been great - just like the vast majority on MTB or Trials. The difference is that there is a vacuum of leadership for ebike users, and a few crappy over-exposed examples giving people stupid ideas.

Thoughts on how to fix that?

Maybe Dave Norona could step up and help develop some leadership considering how his business model relies on using shared public resources to promote his business and his sponsors? Hopefully he sees this and can chime in with some thoughts.

LOL. I know we are getting some unusual weather this year but I don't think Hell is going to freeze over just yet.

As an average Joe ebiker - this thread reminds me a lot of the above.

Every time someone brings this up I can't help but think the situation is way more similar like when the DH riders (think Palmer era) got into the MTB scene (think lycra-wearing xc/trail riders). The comparison of mtbers vs e-mtbers. isn't fair in my opinion. Snowboarders didn't hit the slopes with motors, just a different type of board and attitude, like DH riders back in the day with their different bikes and attitude. E bikes are another level up that hasn't happened into the snow scene yet.

but what if snowboarders were first and skiers the late ones, causing all the moguls on the slopes?

I'd say a better similarity would be mountain bikers taking over old Trails Moto trails and riding them the 'wrong' way ;)

Or mountain bikers on hiking trails in the 90’s.

Or even fast cyclists on MUP’s anywhere crowded.

Does that mean Multi-Use Path?

Interesting you bring up hiking trails.  25 years ago we use to do St. Georges and Per Gynt as rideable trails; never gave it a thought (although our numbers were less then too).  For many of us hiking up St. Georges was the best alternative to getting to the road (since going around to Mtn Hwy was long winded and pointless kms). Might of seen the odd hiker on St Georges but I don't recall seeing many hikers at all, even on the Baden Powell.  I only started to notice non-bike traffic increase really when biking became more popular and the trails became more known.  I have noticed a correlation between smooth trails and more hiker/runner use on bike trails as a result.  I could easily argue that bikers on hiking trails was the best thing to happen to hikers since without us the network would of stayed small and hardly used.  I have never, even on the Baden Powell, other than district work, seen a hiking group do any trail work of any type.  Go up St. Georges and Per Gynt today and compare.
