Thanks for that!

Mtbr’s ebike forum is very informative and discourages the hate.

Liability issues?? Motorized vehicle?Looks like more and more areas are shutting the door. Don't know how much longer this sneak in the backdoor pretending to be a mountain bike charade is going to last for you guys, but I'm sure you can chat about it on the link you provided.

"UROC considers them to be motorized and does not support their use on the Cumberland trail network at this time.

UROC also recognizes that the use of e-bikes on mountain bike trails is still evolving..."

This seems sensible. Ban them outright for now, if the off-road moped industry decides to get their shit together then possibly reevaluate.

I'm not sure what UROC 'banned'?

"The agreement reached with the private landowners around Cumberland in 2015 specifically grants access for non-motorized, recreational use of the trails and for motorized access when necessary for events or trail work."

They advocated for non-motorized recreation, and the landowner granted access for non-motorized recreation.

Its up to clubs to decide what they advocate for and in most cases the land manager has final say on who can do what on their land. UROC didn't actually 'ban' anything. Agreements, and often funding, are often predicated on wording like "non-motorized", especially in the US.

Looks like BC Gov just stepped into the ring:

I didn’t see a decision there, just some definitions and signage templates. The linked pdf (paraphrased) says “allowed where appropriate”. Is that different from what’s currently in place?

Important to note that the FLRORD/RST-BC ebike policy applies nowhere on the Shore.

Doesn't really change much - just affirms what was already implied.

It is helpful in that it recognizes the definitions that Govt will go with, and it also identifies the discretion of Rec Offices to place restrictions if there are problem areas. It somewhat slams the door on the use of non-pedal assist bikes on rec trails. This also clearly implies that any Class 2 or Class 3 ebike must have a license plate, just like an ATV or dirt bike.

Most interesting to me is that Section 12 part about Monitoring and Policy update. I see this as a mostly rational and well-though approach, that will provide opportunities to adjust things if issues arise. I would hope that those that promote ebikes would see this as a good reason to promote responsibility among their users, and advocate against the kind of things that will create problems (i.e. Riding uphill on downhill trails, blasting through high-traffic areas).

This follows the course of past Ministry work....they really don't want to pass restrictions, they want user groups to figure it out for themselves. If there is a mess, they will wade in and use the discretion identified in the policy, but they would rather see the public work out any wrinkles on their own.

Wow, Richie's ebike promo is quite the fluff piece. No acknowledgement of trail advocacy issues in a contentious place like SoCal.

Hey Yub Nub.

Maybe you should just hang out at the emoped site you posted? I could care less what the pros of yesteryear are plugging. It's so transparent it's hilarious. Went on a unamed bike shop ride last week with about a dozen people, not one rider was on one of these things. They all had access to the emoped demos, why is that? #maybebecausetheyarelame?
