The thing that i find very interesting is this:
Right now there is the issue about the 2010 olympics and the highway proposal to by-pass Horseshoe Bay. Now, the city of West Van wants to build a tunnel so as not to effect the sensitive ecological area of Eagle ridge and above. Also the city expained that the numbers the government were giving about the cost of land was well below the actual value so that the cost of both projects (tunnel and above ground) were within $10 mill of each other.
Now, this all seems kind of fishy, because a) the land is worth alot of money (that's a given thinking how much each piece of property up there is worth and b) The area that has been labelled to be used for "future neighbourhoods" is on that same piece of land where the city is crying about protecting the eco-system.
As much as IMO think that that area should be left pristine, i think that the city of west van might have there own agenda and realize that that land would be be worth more to them dividing up into "single-household properties" selling for a higher premium and making lots annually off property taxes, then giving it up to the ministry of transportation for a bargain. To build a highway through this "future neighbourhood" would mess up their whole plan. This just seems too much of a coincidence to me.
