Cougars?

I haven't seen one on the shore, but I know they are around at dusk, can feel that I am being watched.
Being a rider and trail runner I feel it's very foolish to be solo having earphones on. Came up behind a guy on the trail running back from Norvan falls on Tuesday, he had earbuds in and had to yell super loud for him to hear me to get past. I don't know if you could hear a cougar coming for you, but having hearing capability may help if being stalked.

I guess its only a matter of time before someone gets nibbled. I heard Peter had a run in with one while working on Leopard/7th a little while back.

I think a rider was jumped on or at about a year ago in Squamish or Pemberton?

Debate? Bikes are made for riding not pushing.

That cougar was quite curious.

Interesting he left his bike lying on the ground. I would have thought holding it up in front or waving it above you would have increased your perceived size to the cougar. At least stand the thing between you and and cat.

That cougar is its land and we should be grateful they let us build trails there and ride there. We should sacrifice a child seven times a year to ride there.

Am I doing this right?

If they're your kids you're offering, then, yeah.

I swear I had an almost run in with a cougar about 6 weeks ago where Leppard comes out near Crinkum.

I stopped at the bottom of leppard for a few seconds and heard an animal very close moving away northish into the bush. And it didn't make bear noises, or deer noises, or someone trying to sneak into the woods and take a shit noises. I just had one of those feelings like it was a cougar and it gave me the willies. I've seen lots of bears, but none of them have ever given me the feeling that I had that day.

Bleh.

those are some great videos , but instead of just standing there letting the animal get comfortable in close proximity to humans pick up some rocks and reinforce the natural fear that animals should have of humans …. that's how they stay alive .

snap yer shot if you want one then get after it .

Well, he wasn't afraid to film the cougar, so it couldn't be because of fear.

The Mrs and kids saw a Cougar in our backyard today in Port Moody. And we aren't up in Heritage Woods either… We're one block off St. Johns.

Couple other neighbors saw it as well. Conservation officers were called. Crazy. Kids were in the yard not 10 minutes before. Then they were inside changing into their bike gear to head out for a ride.

So, biking prevents cougar-human conflicts.
