Because there are 30 downhill trails within 15km of my house and only 5 can be shuttled right to the top.

lol - like i didn't see that coming from a mile away.
We don't know what our limits are, so to start something with the idea of being limited actually ends up limiting us.

Because it's the way I learned… people didn't shuttle much when I started… you rode because you rode…. because you liked riding… whatever the direction.
been climbing since the beginning. cant stop now.
This.
I grew up riding…RIDING…not pushing, not shuttling, not chairlift sitting. A ride involved pedaling up, down, across, and around. If you enjoyed the sport you enjoyed it for the pedaling because you did way more pedaling than you did coasting downhill.

you haev to admit tho, there is something a bit perverse about enjoying a difficult climb.
that's what i find cool about events like the nimby 50 for example - people are there most for the suffer up, not the coast down.

loving the responses so far guys, keep em coming.
perosonally i love the tech climbs, even though they can be frustrating at times. i also the the uber steep stuff to just for that mental grind it ouot factor. one of my fav right now is on sfu and delivers a little bit of everything. starting out at cameron is nice b/c you get a bit of a flat spin before going up. then climb up north road to the powerlines, lower snake, uppercut, gear jammer, mel's and cardiac.
the danger with anything that is a nice climb is it's often a downhill route as well.
what about the cut line up from the water shed to Mel's.

I climb because I want my calf muscles to look like little butts.

yeah i like that too - we did it once. doing the water main trail, across mel's and then up cardiac makes for a great climb as well. i also like heading up from the west side of the hill.

Love the singletrack climbs. Love the challenge, the fitness, everything. Faves are: Cranks, Corduroy, Valleyview, Lazy Boy, Tools of the Trade, Backdoor (RIP). Also the climbing sections on Red Rider. I will take a singletrack climb over a fireroad any day.

I've only climbed Pandora once, and I remember it being steeper than it feels going down. Power line is a good climb from the Horizons turn off until Naheeno.

Oops…I meant to say CBC ;)
I admit it I like the pain.. Tech singletrack or fireroad, I do not care. It is Mountain Biking
I am embarrassed to walk up something that can be climbed and that does motivate me
when I'm in shape I love the climb, when I'm not I just endure it.
Most of my riding right now is on my new stumpy and it's all on fromme. Usually climb Dempsey/Braemar to the BP then over to Mtn Highway. Used to hate having to push my glory up and slog across the BP but now it's a wicked warm-up + I don't have to get on/off the bike constantly(dropper post ftw!!). I've always liked pushing myself physically and kind of enjoy that feeling at the top of a tough climb when you're totally out of breath. Anyone got any climbing suggestions/routes/laps on Fromme?
Oh and there's all the wicked secret shit you find when you're riding up.
nobody is this dumb.
