Bear on seymour

I was riding salvation yesterday and had a run in with a black bear right where it comes out into the powerlines clearing. I came around a blind corner and surprised the medium sized black bear. I was only about 5 or 6 feet away from it, so I slowly got off my bike and had it between myself and the bear. The bear then huffed at me, so I made myself look big and made some noise to show it I meant business. It then bluff charged me with 3 or 4 thunderous steps and came right up to my bike before backing off and scurrying down the trail. It then turned around about 10-15 feet away and continued to stare me down, so I got on a stump with bike in hand and made a lot of noise until it scurried off into the bush.

So just a heads up. be bear smart out there. If you surprise a bear like I did, do not run and do not back down if it comes towards you. 99% of the time they are acting defensively and will only bluff charge you in an attempt to defend themselves. Luckily it was a male, so no cubs and I got off scott free.

I wish I was wearing a gopro at the time, it would have been epic footage!

Wow, pretty scary. To be honest, I have no idea what I would do if I were in your situation. I've never really been near a bear enough so that it would act defensively. Hardly any bears on the lower island.

And I'm pretty sure he lives on Corkscrew. I've seen him a couple times, but never as intimately as your encounter.

I bumped into a skunk on one of those side trails near Will's Way.
Now THAT was scary.

I bumped into another one today. This time on Fromme.
We were coming to the bottom of Rooter's re-route when my dog goes totally rigid and then bolts towards me from the scrub to the side of the trail.
I look over there and there's a skunk getting ready to fire one at the dog. Good thing my dog is a fast runner. That skunk had some attitude problem.
