Just a heads up folks. Spotted this morning (10am) one very large (300+lbs) lone male black bear walking down road just past Pipeline/Ladies entrance. Bolted into the Leppard entrance.

I saw a big one trying to have a picnic in the Seymour Vancouver Picnic Area (aka Corkscrew parking lot). He was not at all concerned about people or the car that was honking at him from 5 feet away.

I like to pack a little beef jerky for them. Pet them and they feed right out of your hand.

I was once cornered by a couple bears in the corner of a west end bar's washroom. Only when they realized I was female (it took them a while unfortunately) did they turn around and head back to their table.

Wrong. Always.

Vancouver will soon find out that Bruins aren't as friendly as one might think.

Funny bizness aside, I appreciate the heads-up.

I have never seen a bear on Fromme, been riding it since 1993 or so, but certainly assumed they're around.

I generally only think about bears in places where I have previously seen them, which while biking includes Seymour (Severed, power line trail) and last year on Burnaby MTN of all places (near the playground). Your sighting is a good reminder to us to be alert and careful everywhere.

I accidentally mixed up a BBC Kids video called "When good bears act bad" about black bears with a youtube video of the same name that featured 2 fat hairy men in g-strings dancing at a party. Then I spent the next half hour trying to explain to a 5 year old what he had just seen.

Today's moral is despite the best intentions of educating children about bears you should really pay more attention about what kind of bears you are teaching them about.

And why did you have a video that featured 2 fat hairy men in g-strings dancing at a party?

unless it had a cub and you were between the two, then there is nothing to worry about

normally i would agree with you but im pretty sure that is the same bear that i almost got tackled by. i was walking down st. Marys just under the power lines last year and herd some branches breaking off to one side but could hear a few dogs barking so thought nothing of it. then i saw a big black blur jumping out of the ditch and by the time i could turn around to see what was going on all i could see was the rear end of a bear crash back into the bushes on the other side of the road.
