When a 2 ft wide path become ten 2 ft wide paths. Some areas of upper Seymour are completely sh*t kicked and are a disaster and eyesore now. Many respect ‘holistic’ trails, but sadly many more don’t.

Upper Seymour is a disaster. I love a good illegal trail but 20 intertwining trails none of which are particularly well built or drain is not good for our park.
That being said, I think trails do more for the environment than we think. When people get out and enjoy nature, I think they are more likely to advocate for the environment with their votes and purchasing practices.

Rhetorical question: If there was never was a game of whack-a-mole with Metro, I wonder what the lay of the land would look like up there?

In an ideal world Metro would have been highly proactive WRT the trail network and there'd be a nice mix of trails that are reasonably spread out with a few climbing options to allow you to put together some nice loops. The addition of the climbing trails on Fromme and Seymour are good examples of how one trail can change the way a network functions. It's a bit mind boggling that with parks being a significant part of Metro's mandate that they can't get their act together and put a good plan on the table. It's even more confounding where there is a pool of potentially free labour available. Instead they've ended up with a bit of a shit show due to their inaction.
