I sit here typing with a pulled groin so needless to say I'm feeling like an old timer. I can't complain tho, at my age I'll take any sort of swelling around my crotch.
Having lived at the top of Mtn Hwy in the early 90's I threw my Rocky Mtn Vertex with canti's and state of the art Mag 21 Rock Shox down Fromme's trails. Oh how I pined for a Proflex fully back then. I still own the Rocky and should drag it back up Fromme one of these days and let myself get thrown over the bars for old times sake

it's when you know what a Proflex and a Hammer were..

I remember both of those bikes and I'm in my 20's. I remember when those things had those dumb yellow elastomer shocks…

I'm in my 20's and I HAVE that exact rocky hammer. 94?

I like this thread. I too remember Ned's when it was loamy. At the time, I was riding it on my 1st dually, a Softride with suspension stem. Looked vaguely like pic attached. I can tell you that getting down Ned's the 1st time was interesting…betweeen the bucking suspension 'seat post' and handlebars that were both steering and suspension. I quickly sold this bike and bought a new Asama Rockline.

You owned a variant of the "sh*tbike"?!! sweet and stupid. well done. I rented and borrowed bikes in the late 80's then got and still have, albeit the 3rd frame (one of the original JRA crew) a Rocky Mtn Cirrus. prior to that i rode the shore on my 1977 Honda XR75.

Is it counter productive to ride on my exercise bike with a cocktail in hand?

If by old times you mean nsmb old…then yeah I have been here pre these boards…remember dawn twatson, that food website we crashed by being idiots and epic arguments with proto that I could never win…lol. And the stupidest bikes were owned by vps-1sucka and crew…god those were fugly norcos. :P

Or old in the meaning of the sport…when I started there was no index shifting, Tomac and Overend were the kings of the sport and the best toe clips where the specialized ones you boiled to shape to your feet. There was no suspension, clipless pedals, or any tires above 2.2 inches. Neon was cool, fillet brazed custom bikes were what we drooled over (I still do) and Garry Fisher bikes were just Fisher before the ski company threatened to sue them. The best bikes at the time were Fat City Cycles in my opinion and the sport had more heart and soul than it does now…but it is still a TON of fun. Suntour was the biggest and best name in shifting, araya rm-20s where the best rims, specialized made the best tires and Tinker was the man.

Life is like riding a bicycle – in order to keep your balance, you must keep moving.
