Another coyote warning on Richard Juryn trails

Hi all: My dog and I just had a coyote encounter an the bottom end of the Richard Juryn trail. We had just exited the single-track and a big, healthy-looking coyote followed my dog out onto the gravel path. He was definitely trying to provoke a fight but for once my dog had the smarts to back off. He was not much afraid of me and followed close to us for quite a while just off the path as we rode away. I never felt threatened but I'm sure he would have liked to get a piece of my dog. We only saw the single animal but there are probably more around.

Cheers,

Don

I believe the pack hangs out near the cemetery just off the edge towards the river. I have seen them there numerous times. I think they also hang out a fair bit just east of the gate where I am guessing they get the odd free meal from workers leaving lunch out? I have been followed numerous times by sole coyotes when with my dog. He barks at them and gives a weak chase. The ones at the cemetery are more serious though. One comes out looking friendly and if the dog goes to chase that one, a couple others come around behind. Only they find a guy on a bike with powerful lights chasing them back and they do get confused then.

Debate? Bikes are made for riding not pushing.

They're only coyotes. Not much they can do unless your old, a child or a yappy lil mutt.

All propaganda has to be popular and has to accommodate itself to the comprehension of the least intelligent of those whom it seeks to reach.

Never doubt pack instincts. Used to be a pack of them that hung out at Lafarge Lake and ya same thing, one of them tries to bait the dog then the other 3 or 5 pounce on it. Coyotes aren't house pets, they're mean and tougher than they look, and they know how to kill.

Saw a coyote crossing the RJ trail around 4:00 today. It was alone, but if there is a pack around dog owners should be careful. They will bait naive city dogs into the bushes and then the rest of the pack will tear the poor dog to shreds.

Where is the Richard Juryn trail?

I ride a bunch of trails in the NS, that I honestly dont know the name of, and since it is with my dog, who would definitely give chase, I'd rather stay clear of the area.

Thanks
T

Where is the Richard Juryn trail?

if you've ridden it with your eyes open, you'd know. there about 10 signposts on a 2 km length of trail.
